I'm in need of a food mixer and am seeking advice on the ideal item to purchase. It'll be used pretty often, mainly for making dough.

Stumbled across the Andrew James 1500 Watts Electric Food Stand Mixer which seems to have pretty decent reviews on Amazon. There's also the Kenwood Chef Classic KM336 too, a fair bit more in price but I only plan on buying one so would rather buy one that will last.

Any experience with the above machines or any other mixers worth using would be much appreciated.

I have Kenwood KMC510, very good mixer, got a spud peeler for it off the bay fairly cheap, give them spuds a rough texture, which help to make fantastic roast spuds.
Only complaint I have is the price of a second Kenwood stainless steel bowl, around £96:eek:.

Would like a Kitchenaid mixer, but just too expensive.:(

There is a Kitchenaid Classic for £300 on Amazon. Is it really going to be worth the extra £100 over the Kenwood?

the wife and I got a Kenwood Chef as a wedding present from my dad and it still looks like the day we got it 4 years ago, excellent well built unit and still very well supported.

If you have the space, save some cash and get the kitchenaid, great machine and brilliant versatility! A bit on the heavy side though so no good if you or someone who will be using it, cannot lift it.

Keep an eye on Debenhams sales as they often do the blanket "xx%" off, and the mixers get included!

my missus loves baking..we had a cheap grundig orbital mixer and it was ok, but the motor just was not up to making good dough for bread, fine for cakes though. the motor burned out and we got a refund

we now have a kenwood chef (kmc510..lots in the box..4 beaters and a proper glass jug for blending on the top mount) it is far more powerful and has a much better hinge than a simple pin through..it powers through bread dough with ease

we did look at the kitchen aid but after the experience of the grundig (which is a similar design and hinge type and lower powered motor) we went with function over form

al reviews seemed to say that the chefs last for years..and when they do break..people replace with another chef!

Kenwood K-Mix here for us - works really well. We also have the mincing attachment which is great. It also does sausages, but I haven't tried that yet :)
