Just started playing this with boston utd. Now I have realised its not easy to win!!

Has anyone got any general tips or tactics which tend to work quite well against most oppostion??

Thanks In adavnce

It’s like real football; you have to assess the strengths of your team. However I find that a quick tempo, short passing and attacking mentality is usually best. Try not to set creative freedom too high as the players will end up all over the place.

One thing I like to do is identify the opposition’s best player and man-mark him out of the game. Also, obvious things like don’t be too adventurous away from home or you will be punished. Once you’ve chosen a formation give it at least 5 or 6 games for the players to get used to it. If you have a tall forward try setting him as a target man. The slower your defenders the deeper the defensive line needs to be. Don’t be too angry in your team talk or you will lose the confidence of the players, if you loose it’s better to sympathize then berate. O and don’t talk to the press too often as it annoys your players.

These are some things to think about, but as in real football, experience counts. Keep going, it is the greatest game for killing your social life I have ever come across.

These are mine, to be fair I score a lot of goals but concede far to many

Just one question how do you man mark a ceratin player ??
I know how to tell a ceratin player to man mark but don’t know how to select the player to mark if that makes sense!

Thanks again for the advice

Anyone got any other advice

When you click to go to match it takes you to the team talk screen, but you can also make changes to your tactics specifically for this match. Choose the player you want to use, drop down the marking menu and it will give you the option of choosing someone to man mark.

Hope this helps.

I dont know at what stage you are in the season but when i have managed the mighty scunthorpe united i would try to get good young loan players from the premier league or championship which would improve the quality of your squad even if its only for 1 season and mix them with experienced older players you already have .

In real football i love to see wingers take players on down the flanks but in fm2007 i dont like to play too wide because you leave big gaps between your defenders and also i dont play a very quick tempo because it can produce good one touch football but a lot of the time you give the ball away too often i wouldnt say play slow but just not too quick .

In the lower leagues most teams have a striker with good heading and jumping so at corner give him near post flick on and have 1 centre back challenge goalkeeper and 1 stand far post , this may sound daft but always use your best corner taker in friendlies experiment with different players see who's best and remember to have the corner taker aim for near post from both sides , in my newcastle game viduka and carroll scored a fair amount from this corner setup .

I was about to start a new game of this the other day, but then I realised FM2008 will be out next month so will wait for that before starting a new epic game.

Mmm tahnks for all these tips. I'm only into september at moment. He hoping I can take the mighty boston utd up to the dizzy heights of the permier league wish me luck !!!

I used to play FM2005 when I got my hands on 07 and realised that the tactics which I have been applying(and were fairly successful) in 05 were total failures. Pretty gutted for such difference in performance given that I made giants 2 different clubs(in 2 different long games) out from being bottom-to-mid-table at FM05 and now these tactics give me very inconsistent results.

I refer to the 3-5-2(3xDC,2xDMC,3xMC,2xST) for home games and 4-4-2(with ML and MR going all the way forward), for away games. I dont know if it hasnt got to do with the(lack of) team talk but even when I tried to use it more often, performance didnt change much.

You forgot to add the traditional 2-3 months before the third patch comes out which solves the perenial problems with regens and super goalie "tweaks". Can't have a new version of football mnager without problems with regens and super golies, its the law. :)

Haha, totally agree. But thats why we love the game :p

im lamping this for all its worth at the moment too.

im in my 8th season i think with Altrincham FC currently in the 1st division after keeping them up there last season and managing England? i dunno they just offered me i accepted though i generally hate managing the national teams it was england how could i not accept :) got them knocked out of the euro championships in the group stages lol.

Loving it and awaiting the next version.

4 - 4 - 2

Right / Left wing (midfield) , let them attack upwards. (right to the sides of both striker)
Right / Left Defender , Attack upwards behind the 2 midfield wingers.

Mentality - Attack
Tempo - Quick

That's what i do and in 1st season, i had a very difficult time winning the title (I used man utd).

But after 2nd season (got rid of c.ronaldo for £40,000,000), title began coming. Aiming for Champion league now.

For the gamer that likes to immerse himself into the game (and it helps in terms of success), play to your teams strengths when playing a team weaker than you and play against your oppositions strengths when playing a team stronger than you.

i.e You have fast defenders and you are playing a weaker team with average paced strikers? Play a high line.
If you are playing a stronger team with average paced strikers (in comparison to your own), play a slightly deeper line etc

This goes for all options (all based on your and your oppositions strengths):
- increase/decrease creativity level of your 'creative' players
- change your passing style
- your tempo
your teamsheet - slow but strong/good header defenders who usually dont make the lineup, coupled with a deep line could work well to stiffle a strong and equally slow attack, or if opposition has defenders quicker than your attack, play wingers with good crossing and put in lots of crosses etc

The game can go a lot deeper than just sticking with the same lineup/tactics game in game out.

Well after reading all your advise and read some other tactics and formations , I played for 5 hours last night and ended up bottom of the table:rolleyes:

found the brazialin box formation, which is ment to be a good formation and tactics , so I 'll have anohter go tonight :p

I'll keep you updated :o

The FM series (& CM before that) is my favorite game series of all time but I quit 2007 and I wont be buying 2008 because I had some really unrealistic stuff happen.

If you need tactics you should read the FM forums, there are some people who really do spend to much time working out the best ways to win...

Thats what I have done read the forums , and they seem to suggest the brazlian 4 4 2 in a midfeild box. How long does it take for your players to get used to the formation ??
