Hello, I went a walk with my newly purchased Sigma 70-300mm lens and Nikon D50 tonight and ended up at a local football match/training session. I have also managed to possibly secure selling my pictures to the owner/manager. Please comment on these pictures before I send them thanks. I must stress that the light was low and I have done a little cropping and levels etc in Photoshop.

Please feel free to post any alterations as well.

They all look blurry and some are out of focus, the noise is pretty terrible in some of them too.

First one is definately the strongest for the composition, it's just a shame it's OOF and blurry.

You could do with adjusting the shadow/highlights a bit to bring out more detail (IMO :)).

I had a quick play , came out a bit noisy with working on the low-res jpegs :(

Thanks mrgubby. Might have a good. I also checked that my focus points was on spot. What type would you recommend for football? Single area, dynamic area, closest, matrix, centreweight or spot?

thanks

Some good shots there.
The backgrounds in most of them are underexposed though and mrgrubby shows that there is more detail to be extracted from them.

Use a noise reduction plug-in or Photoshop to reduce the noise.

Nice pictures and colours. I like the positioning of the first shot, you have caught the concerntration of the footballer well. Shame its not as sharp as it could be.
Well done :)

Nice shots, slightly noisey though as others said. I had a quick play in PS using Noise Ninja (http://www.picturecode.com/) as well as just messing around. I probably made it too soft; and it's hard to work with low quality jpgs. But an example of what you can do:
