when i was a kid i used to collected the merlin f.a. premier league stickers every year without fail up to about 98/99. when i was that age i always said one day im gonna buy a box of them and get all the shinys.


well today i thought i would finally fulfil a childhood dream.

one problem... all i see in the shops is match attax, what the hell are these things. are stickers a thing of the past?
 
I remember collecting football stickers, that was almost two decades ago when I was in school. I had the shiny FA cup sticker which was usually number 1 in the album. Some dude wanted to trade his entire Wimbledon team stickers for it.
 
even by buying a box, it doesnt mean you will get all the shineys.

some cards/stickers are extremely rare, this is how they make their money, you keep on buying until you get them all.

they only stick 1 rare card in like every box and theres bound to be at least 10 rares, rooney, torres, drogba, vidic, reina, gerrard, lampard, etc.

complete waste of money, thats why they target kids.
 
hence my decision was made as a kid and not as an adult. you can buy complete albums on ebay for £20 but the fun is in opening the packs to see who you get.
 
Yes to collect them, when I filled a book one year I went to primary school and just got all the lads around and chucked them spares in the air.

I bought an unbelievable amount when I was a kid and still never managed to complete one. Some are just ridiculously rare.

Not really you could always send off for certain stickers after a certain time.

92-92 and 93-94 were the years that I almost did to completion. Around 10 or so missing from each. Great memories, the period before the register was taken was filled with us all doing swaps.
