for 2 screens... which card?

Well im purchasing a 2nd screen soon more than likely a 23" IPS LED with as low as poss ms as i can find.

The real question is with the new r9 290x coming out and having 2 screens i might push 1440p or stick at 1080 with both not sure, shall i get the 290x or a 7990 for dual screens or will the 290x handle it oh and this will be for ultra settings on BF4 i dont play anything below ultra .

The whole concept of me having 2 screens is gaming on one and surfing the web or editing on the other so hence i noted 1080p still.

Any advice will be hugely appreciated thanks!

If you just want to game on the one screen and run something less intensive on the other (film, web browser and so on) then any mid level card and up will manage it. The performance impact of just running an additional screen is not all that high any more.

I run 3 23" screens off a single MSI HD R6970, I game on a single screen at respectable level but to run anything intense at high level or across multiple screens in eyefinity, it has to be at low settings or at very poor FPS.

So your saying i would be fine for ultra settings BF4 on the 290x with a 2nd screen for surfing the web same time?

Running a second screen will increase your idle temperatures as the card won't clock down as much as it does with only one screen attached. When gaming then technically the second screen will require some resource from the GPU, but so long as you're only running the game on one screen, the requirement for the second screen's desktop/internet/whatever is so minimal that it won't be noticeable, and probably won't be measureable.

Think of a second non-gaming screen as adding a Yorkie bar to the glove box of your Ferrari. Technically, the added weight will slow the car down, but it would never be enough to measure it.

this. i have had 3 screens for a while and running a game one 1 with the 2 browsing web has minimal performance issues (ignoring flash player when its accelerated !)
