HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

im looking for someone with an asus striker extreme m/b,ive have my cpu at 3ghz and would like it at 3.2ghz,i set the multiplyer to 8 and fsb to 400 vcore 1.35 and tried differant settings with memory...linked unlinked etc and no go,i have to reset the bios and start again.i know the 680 chipset is known to be not the best overclocker but im hoping theres someone with the same sort of rig that could help me out....thanks.

Hny to you m8.My mb craps out at 360 fsb with quad cores. The only good overclocking 680 i is the evga and that has to be the version with no ending A1.Seeing as you have sli then your only options are swap to the evga mb or get a cpu with free multi if you want more speed.

dude educate me:eek:
im using bios version 1301,tried raising my core voltage but can only manage just over 3ghz when my comp will either freeze on the screen with the striker extreme logo where you can press del to enter bios or it will pass that and say system boot fail press f1 or words to that effect,i clear cmos reset to 3ghz and its fine,i allways have memory unlinked....really nice clocking m8:eek:;)

just a quick one,i tried 1303 cos id read that that was the best but my comp wont boot with my mouse plugged in,i have to start the comp with mouse unplugged the when windows loads plug the mouse back in,is there a prob with that version and rasor copperheads?i have 1303 downloaded just reverted to 1301 because the mouse issue:confused:

You're right there mate. Totally forgot about that. So chuck your mouse in the bin and get one that doesn't stop your overclocking antics :D:D:D

what can i say:):Dyou are a star m8,yesterday i was up for selling this motherboard:eek:cant tell you how pleased i am now, tried your advised settings and alls good, ive took it back to 3.2ghz to start with and ive set the mem voltage to 1.2v (will my mem be ok at that voltage?)ill give it a good test and post my temps, just to make sure there ok:)...seriously though m8 thanks a lot:):)

No worries mate. :D (I did used to be OcUK tech Mgr so I'm pretty in the know but, having the same board helped cos I'd already done all the hard work on mine :D)

1.2V for your RAM VOLTAGE can't be right.

List your FULL settings and I'll take a quick look to see what needs to be tweaked :)

sorry 2.1v on mem,its corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz mem.just ran 3dmark06 and got 16378 so bit of an improvement:),also had a BSOD saying page_fault_in_nonpaged_area:confused:sure ill figure that out though:)very plaeased with results so far:)..edit..windows was unstable,BSOD and programs not responding etc,i forgot to up the vcore voltage, set it to 1.35v and has been fine since :)

So how's it going mate :D What's it like to now be a master of the dark art of NINJA

overclocking :D

cant thank you enough m8,ive been gutted for months because of the amount of people slating this board, was even on the verge of swapping it out, aint going anywere now though:)just gonna spend a bit of time understanding what the individual settings are though.whats the safe voltage limit on the kentsfield Q6600 go?i think its 2.1v on my memory just want to make sure i dont push it to far,i think the bluescreening and programs chucking a wobbly was due to low voltage settings, got it sorted now though i think:)just gotta try and sort the mouse boot up prob:rolleyes:

Great stuff mate....Good work. Satisfying ain't it :D

Max safe temp on air for Q6600 G0 is widely considered to be around 1.5V.

Also, the striker is renowned for over volting the RAM slightly so if you become unstable at 2.1V, back it off one or two notches.

Secondly, the Striker is renowned for one of the overclocker's worst pitfalls....VDroop. This basically means, under load, the board won't be giving the CPU the voltage it's BIOS says it is.

For example:

If in the BIOS you set the CPU VCore to 1.5V, CPU-z will show it at as low as 1.425V so don't be afraid to go a little over 1.5V if things get a little wobbly.

Keep at it and keep me posted.

Homework:

I expect 3.4GHz on my desk by this time next week :D

cant quiet get 3.4 stable, gets to cpu test on 3dmark06 and locks, not sure how to rectify that, running nicely at 3.2 though, think i may have to start thinking of alternative cooling at 3.4ghz its sits idle at 60 60 60 59 so ill need to sort that i think.

nah still no good, get to cpu test and it locks up,back at 3.2ghz and it seems solid, weird thing though i have it at 355x9=1420 and that gives me 3195mhz which has been stable,if i try 1422 which gives 3199mhz it starts chucking up BSOD and becomes very unstable:confused:running at 3.2ghz my temps are idle at 45 45 45 43 according to coretemp.its not a huge problem though considering i was stuck at 3ghz and now can manage 3.2 stable, pretty pleased with that,do you think maybe i need a watercooler for the 3.4 settings?
