For christ´s sake I hate this!

So, I ordered a 8800 GTS yesterday. Now I start to wonder should I had bought the 2900? I´m playing 1680x1280 cranked up with all AA16x and AF16x
I still can cancel my 8800 order, should I? And pls no fanboy comments, to me it looks like NVidia is just top dog atm. I need quick anwsers, please!
thanks in advance

And yeah, heat and high noise level- i dont give a damn about those, just performance

My other system:

DS3
E4300@3ghz(to be)
2GB Gskill 6400 ultra low lat.

Depends on what you beleive.

There pretty much the same at the moment, the only reason ati seems to be behind on the benchmarks is because AA causes fps to drop too much Which will Change once ati fix the drivers so AA will not reduce fps as heavy..

And a few people including my self think that the Ati card will be more future proof when it comes to drivers Etc, because the Ati card has more features and once the drivers take hold of every inch of performance im sure it has more to offer, And a obviouse fact of what i said is it has a 80nm core which is 10nm smaller than the Nvidia one so it can clock higher core and when the Drivers take hold of all of the performance, It will be better.

And you allso get over 30+ Pounds worth of Free games included so even tho people say "Its over priced!" its really not at all :)

Seems to me as if the X2900XT is giving random performances throughout games, sometimes even dropping below the X1950XTX. The GTS shows quite a consistant performance through all games and a lot of the time beats the 2900, plus its cheaper :)

I myself changed my mind from an X2900XT to a 8800GTS 640mb :)

Stick with the 8800GTS you've ordered. The 2900XT takes a gigantic performance hit with AA/AF enabled, probably due to current drivers, and draws a lot more power than its Nvidia counterpart (which isn't a problem for most.)

Swings and roundabouts really. I don't see a lot performance wise separating the cards right now, plus the GTS isn't as power hungry. I'd be happy if I bought the GTS if I were you, at the very least ATi have lots of driver work to do before they match each other in the AA stakes (not that I like AA myself but it's always nice to have the option ;))

Gift.

Yeah, thanks dudes, I think I will be sticking to the GTS now, It´s a shame lol, Because a while ago my rig was:

X1950pro
athlon3200+

Now its all Intel and NVidia :)

I just hope that ATi will come back with a new 9700, just seems like the G80 is the new 9700 and nothing dramatic will arrive in a while.

And one last Q: How high I can clock the 4300 with the stock cooler? Or should I buy 3rd party one right away, and what would it be?

Do you really think the drivers would be so great? I mean they worked on it for 6 months now, I just dont see why the drivers would suddenly make a HUGE LEAP forward after release

Thanks for fast replies :)

I'm going through the same thing as you mate, I'm like "argh should I have bought the ati 2900xt" then again I'm thinking now should I have bought a GTX

lol :)

Lol I actually though of buying the GTX but then, It´s so damn pricey for me :( This is hardware HELL! Why there just cant be a clear loser and clear winner lol

Think of it like this. . .

8800 GTX - £370 ish. . .

2900 XT - £270 ish. . . £100 cheaper than 8800GTX

8800 GTS - £200 ish. . . £170 cheaper than 8800GTX & £70 cheaper than 2900 XT

I think we've made the right choice, we will still be able to play games on a 24" with AA at around x4 np.

You can overclock with a stock cooler but you will get much better results from say a Scythe Ninja or a zalman, even an arctic freezer 7 pro at £18 would be much better :)

Yeah, I think one thing what surprises me is it seems like ATi is knowingly committing a suicide, I mean high temps and power consumption, worse IQ, bigger size, low AA efficiency, and a higher price doesnt make sense  But I am SO waiting for my new samsung 226BW

I'm about to haggle with Dell to see if I can make them sell me a 24" for £400 with 3 years guarantee. . . lol, I'm sick of paying 20 - 40% markup on items, money doesnt grown on trees does it.

How high is the Ninja? I mean I have an ANTEC solo and it has 13.5 or 14 cm space there, would it fit?

I might just watercool the 8800GTS, will I be able to clock it to GTX Speeds????

My Leadtek 8800GTS 640MB runs well over GTX speeds at 650/2000Mhz with the stock cooler.

I have a watercooled CPU with only a single low speed 80mm casefan and the cooler on the 8800GTS still remains very quiet under load.

I bum my Question, so:

edit: Heck I think it is over 15 cm! Could someone confirm?

edit: nvm I have 17 cm of clearance, it should fit :)
