For fans of 'The Long Way Round'

Oooo, massive fan of Long Way Round/Down. Thanks

You should also get your hands on Mondo Enduro if you like this sort of thing. Pretty hardcore, shame there wasn't more footage :)

oooh will check it out.

You guys ever watch the Race to Dakar one. I actually enjoyed it more than long way round and long way down. Actually I hated the long way down because of Ewans stupid wife.

There is a Long Way Down?

I watch the long way round maybe once or twice a year, in one sitting mostly lol.

I might watch it. Why is she annoying? Whiny bitch?

anyone used to watch nick sanders??

long before Charlie arrived on the scene

I've been meaning to buy his DVDs & book. Looks really good.

It's a shame more of this stuff doesn't make it to TV, much better than the crap they show a lot of the time.

They showed one on tv a good few years back,he was going round the world on a triumph daytona I think,n someone tried to nick it in the USA

I've seen these before, but been watching them with my gf before our trip.

I prefer race to Dakar (probably as I have an F650 Dakar), LWR and LWD have too many UN type missions. Plus Ewan moans all the time. What a disaster it was taking those BMWs. It's not like they couldn't have afforded the KTM, Ewan the tightwad. lol

Yeah KTM pulled out. Rumour is that the LWR teams demands were too high. Still I don't see why Ewan with who is a multimillionaire and owns a castle for god's sake, could have treated himself, charlie, and Claudio to some nice new bikes and spares. Charlie really wanted the KTM.

The funny thing is after the first lot of issues in LWR they used the same bikes (newer model) in LWD, and encounter similar problems.

Doesn't the GS have a 19"wheel? For the off road stuff they were doing a 21" wheel would have helped.

Anyway, both LWR and LWD are still amongst the best motorcycle adventure series broadcast.

As for Race to Dakar, I personally wanted to see more stuff about preparing the bike to meet the regulations. A detailed walkthrough of the modifications and other stuff. Instead we learn more about the bad choice of car they use a support vehicle.

Thanks for the link OP (bloodiedathame)! I expect I'll enjoy this.

My girlfriend will be worried when she sees me watching it though, I already left her for three months to do a Euro-trip last summer... (Relationship started once it was all planned so conscience clear!)

To be fair, it will probably give me the itch to go off again. Though this time maybe twos-up :P

And also make me gutted that while I took plenty photos I didn't have a GoPro (or similar) cam to video the route :(

From memory, the main issues were suspension, which were Ohlins units that kept failing....they should have kept with the stock items! Then I think in LWR they had an issue with servo operated brakes. Pretty reliable considering the punishment the bikes took.

KTM would have been better on some sections, the BMW on others....but KTM must regret not supporting it more!

KTM have openly admitted its their biggest failure to date.

Was at the Riverside transport museum with the little fella the other day and they have removed Colin McCrae's Subaru to replace it with these:-

Anyone know if Ted Simon's bike is still in Coventry?
