Ok, this really is getting to be the silly now.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11665869&postcount=1

<RANT>Jesus these forums are really starting to head down the pan. The level of inane drivel, "my first gf doesn't love me anymore", and now "oh look, rain" type threads is getting out of hand.

These forums used to be a great community of PC and hardware enthusiasts with a fantastic knowledge base around getting the best out of hardware and intelligent conversation.

In the last year it's turned into the internet equivalent of the Jeremy Kyle show.

Come on Dons & Spie, let's get the forums back to it's former self with some hard and fast moderating and guidelines that are followed (just look at the guide to posting in GD FAQ sticky to see how many guidelines are just ignored these days).

Yes I know I won't be popular for posting this, and yes, I could chose to just not read some threads, and no I don't care. More and more people are commenting on the way things are going, not just in GD.

It's about time the place got back to it's previous highs as a great resource for intelligent conversation and enthusiasts supporting OCUK, with a vibrant respectful community. As it stands it's turned it a bad student union full of "i'd hit it" posts requoting the same picture again and again.</rant>

Sorry if that sounds overly grumpy - just needed to get that off my chest. :)

Of course at it's Spie, OCUK and the Dons that put in the time, effort and money to run the forums, and who am I to pass an opinion, for all I know the forums are a roaring sucess these days generating huge amounts more income than ever before. If that's the case then of course it's none of my business, and let's face it, that's primarily what the forums are for.

I just thought it was about time I mentioned it. The intention is not to offend any specific individuals, the posters here all contribute to the community, and the idea of a GD area along with the others helps build a diverse community, but surely there must be a time to drag the signal to noise ratio back alittle in the other direction?

You don't quite understand the concept of GD do you?
Yes i do, just take a look at the sticky on "quality of GD" to see how many guidelines are just plain ignored lately.

Discussion is great, but a large chunk of the threads of late are just utter drivel. No one's looking for elitest posts discussing the theory of relativity, but at current rates what's next, 20 different threads posting the weather around the country followed by another few threads titled "I'm drinking tea"?

I just ate a doner kebab.

Doesn't work unless you start an entire new thread :D

To be fair it's not a case of blaming GD'ers, or RTMing loads of posts. Perhaps a bit of self moderation and less taking for granted of the forums & bandwidth that Spie has to pay for might not be a bad thing. The mods do a great job but have better things to do with their time than to read and moderate every "i'm bored" thread.

Silly, light hearted, weired and funny posts are what GD has always been about. We could just do without the volume of the posts which really come down to the poster spamming post count or just plain pointless gibberish.

Like I say, just my 2c worth but it's been noticably worse of late, and not just in GD.

maybe you should try and start a intelligent debate rather than just whine that no one else does?
Maybe you should read the post properly before you troll.

a) I never said no one starts intelligent threads, I said the signal to noise ratio seemed to me to be noticably slipping the wrong way.
b) I thought I had just started an intelligent debate, well at least it was until the troll turned up.
That post is a great example of what I mean, you had three options (or more). Ignore my post, post in the thread pointing out why I was right or wrong in a sensible way, or post a provocative reply trolling to start a flame exchange.

Well done you....

Snipped stuff....
Clearly you can't be bothered to read the posts and your only contribution was a trolling post desinged to illicite a reaction.

No where have I said that there aren't great posts in GD, only that some of the threads like "it's raining" or "I'd hit it" with mutliple quotes of the same picture are starting to get a little much.

Try reading the post and having a civil conversation about it rather than posting back with flame fodder.

Nice little temper tantrum though, perhaps you shouldn't have been so quick to be rude and flame if you couldn't take it being pointed out to you.

This place is just like most other long term relationships you have but as lots of members haven't had those yet they can't see it.
Sometimes it's really dull and you just can't be bothered with it and sometimes it's all you think about all day and just can't get enough.
Some members can't handle the lows and spaz out leaving them ostracised and subsequently gutted when they want to resume their relationship but can't, some members spaz out and never want back and some members just know that it'll pick up again when they as well as the forums are in the right place.
You shouldn't complain about a place that you have a chance of improving if you want to:)
Fair enough, just pointing out that I thought the drivel levels were getting out of hand and it shouldn't have to be down to the Dons to police it all the time.

Given that only one or two posters have mentioned they're seeing the same thing maybe it's just my perception. I'll consider myself put in my place, although after years of marriage I have to say i've not got to a point where I thought it was dull and couldn't be bothered with it, maybe i'm just special ;)

From my point of view, I thought bringing this up, be it that I was wrong or right, was an attempt to be involved and improve things. The can't be bothered option would have been to keep my mouth shut and not try to stimulate a debate. /shrug

No my contribution was a suggestion

Much the same as Jonny's
No it wasn't, you started with aggressive flamebaiting. Don't try and compare you posts to a Dons as some kind of justification.

No where have I said thats what you said :/

Try reading the posts infuture..
No, you started listing good threads in GD like the NASA one for some reason, I just pointed out that I never said there weren't great threads, just that there were a bunch of annoying ones as well. You seem determined to quote line for line and try and twist stuff, why bother?

I did just try and make a civil post and yet again you have just called me a troll insulted me and tried to climb on an obviously to higher horse, and failed most miserably.
No, you started with flame bait and then had a temper tantrum when I pointed it out to you. Now you're trying to play the injured party.

You could have started off with "Not at all, GD seems fine to me" but you had to get in a dig about starting intelligent debates and whining. That post was clearly designed to be inflamatory and get a response, at least be man enough to stand by it.

Let's just leave it as we disagree eh? I'm not going any further down the "lets quote one line at a time" flame wars, it's pointless.

Tefal isn't trolling. He's right and you're wrong.
To be fair as I said earlier, I can agree that maybe it's just my perception. What I don't agree with is the way Tefal replied with flamebait designed to provoke a reply and then go for the sympathy vote because I pointed it out to him.

Sheesh...

I've not been around here as long as some but the forums seem to me much like they always have, sometimes the quality takes a bit of a dive but it is cyclical. Sometimes good members leave but others come and contribute, it won't necessarily replace the ones who leave but c'est la vie.
A few people have said much the same in the thread and thinking about it you're right. There have been some spectacular lows and some great threads as well. I just couldn't believe after all the "spec me" and "My girl slept with three camels and my mate, what should I do" (get the hump I suppose ;) ) threads someone actually started a thread with "it's thunder, i'm scared".

T'would appear i'm in the minority in thinking the annoying threads have increased so fair enough. Obviously an afternoon in the sun pushed me off the deep end ;)

So stop posting here and get your GF up in the "Show your GF thread" ;)
Not sure the wife would approve of me posting a picture of the GF... Just as well she can't see this pos... oh hello love... me? oh nothing.... what did I mean by tha...? eeeeek!! *thud* Ow!!! Gotta go!....
