what game, with the exception of UO, is the best game for pure pvp right now?

am i right in thinking its Eve, and if so, roughly how long would it take to get to competitve 0.0 pvp gaming from complete newb?

if its not eve, then what game?

cheers!

I would say eve personally.

After a couple of years of playing I had never touched PvP but after hearing about a hi sec piracy corp clled Darkness Inc I decided to make a new character and join them.

Within about a day of finishing the tutorial I was a member of the corp, within 3 days I had learnt the basic skills I need to warp scram the enemy. Then we simple went out in small frig groups taking on battlecruisers and battleships. Absolutely great fun.

We also did low sec but never 0.0.

To really get into 0.0 you would have to join a corp with access to that space, problem is that many corps have a minimum skill point requirements of 5 million+, i've seen some around the 20million mark too.

I have no idea on that time frame but you are least talking several months.

I would also suggest specialising in one area, one of my characters was trained purely for combat, weapon skills and armour skills. Another was trained for scanning, probing and stealth. I actually found a Raven completely fitted in Hi sec just left abandoned by a planet :D Had to get a corp mate to fetch it for me though as I couldn't fly it!

Guild wars is a good bet, you can make pvp chars at the highest level stright away. However you will be missing a lot of the skills/spells needed to be competitive at pvp but i belive you can buy skill unlock packs. Guild wars is more about whats skills you have, how you use them and how you manage your energy. But i dont know how active the pvp is anymore cause i havn't played it for awhile.

All MMO games require a certain degree of grinding time to level up and get gear. Also, no MMO is perfectly balanced -ie some classes perform better than others at pvp. As stated before, getting to 0.0 in Eve requires a lot of time. However, a lot of people are praising Warhammer at the moment because it strongly encourages pvp right from level 1.

If you want to truly test your skill against human opponents, I'd suggest playing a competititve online FPS or fighting game instead of an MMO.

You seem to think the only MMOs are RPGs...

Eve Online can have you actively participating in low sec PvP within a week, and handling 0.0 combat within 2 months provided you do a very targeted skill tree. There are always uses for the smaller class ships in combat missions for numerous purposes. Like with anything, a decent general chooses their type of combat based on the resources available to them. Roving interceptor squads can be really irritating, for example.
