Hi all.

Been out the loop for such a long time I've no idea what is good etc.

But my son would like a gaming pc built or pre built but only has a budget of £200 maybe £250.

What's doable or is this far too low.

He's only 13 but would like something decent.

doable with 2nd hand components...maybe, definitely nothing respectable if you want new stuff.
(don't forget the cost of windows too)

for 2nd hand components, could get an older i5 (sandy/ivy) + a 7950/670 build probably around £250 from MM
you won't get this much performance new
(but depends if you want warranty or not - tradeoff really, warranty for performance)

Plenty of FX 8 core systems about for that sort of money, lot of 1155/1156 with I5 maybe i7 processors, can get some decent haswell with i3, maybe i5, a lot will come with a hd 7000 Radeon or a 1050/750ti for the decent systems anyways.

Certainly lot of potential on the used market.

If you are worried about the cost upfront, overclockers do the pay monthly schemes as well. You could get a half decent machine and pay only maybe £20-£30 a month to spread the costs.
