I'm going to finally get myself a new console but only really for single player. I live on a boat so I've only got 3G internet so multiplayer is probably a waste of time. It sounds to me from reading about that the 360 is more online based and the ps3 less so, although either way I'm probably missing out. Its going on a 26inch tv which only does 720p. I like racing and football games, and the odd fps. Not a big fan of fantasy stuff though. I've got a small pile of original xbox games, but then again I've still got the xbox. If I got the 360 I'd get an elite, which aren't much less than a ps3. I'm swaying towards the PS3 at the moment, would be nice to have some sort of blue-ray player. Sony sound like they are less likely to replace it soon as well. There's always the wife acceptance factor as well. Is one or the other better for games that she won't hate? What would you do?

I'd say look at the upcoming exclusive games and see which you like more then choose the console on that basis.

Having said that, the PS3 is probably a better choice due to Bluray etc.

Honestly you're going to get a flurry of answers in here for both consoles. I would say personally if i was buying for offline play, I'd be buying a PS3. But I'm sure many people will also say the same for 360. Your best bet is to go on something along the lines of Gamespot, IGN or Gametrailers. Look throught the long lists of games and see what takes your fancy.

Also do you have a PC thats capable of gaming? As some of the 360 exclusive games are available on PC, Where as the PS3 ones are not.

Heavy rain, God of war 3, MGS4, Unchartered 1 and 2 are my favourite PS3 exclusives and cannot be found on PCs or 360s.

As others have said look at the exclusives, PS3: God of War, Heavy Rain, MGS, Uncharted. Xbox: Gears of War, Mass Effect, Fable, Alan Wake, Forza etc totally depends what interests you, if you've got Xbox games already most of them can be played on the 360 however they're just upscaled (do look quite good mind).

In the end, I have both because I'm a greedy bugger :p, but if I had to keep one it'd be the Xbox simply because of Live and the arcade.

Either, neither is better than the other really. I'd say it comes down to which controller you prefer and which game lineup you prefer.

This.

Although, if you could really do with a BluRay player and neither the 360 or PS3 gaming line-up is leaving you with a clear winner, then maybe it's just better to opt for the PS3.

I also have both, but to be honest I think the "only having one console" theme and becoming fanboi's that everyone seems to have done for years now is a bit old. I mean, games costing what they are now, you could just opt for the other console for the sake of the cost of 4 games and open up a huge selection of other games... which is what I did :)

if your saying that on-line is out of the equation, then 360 for games.
it was out before PS3 so has many many more games available (including racing/fps) at very cheap prices.

although PS3 is the only option if you need blu-ray as well.

i myself have a 360 and can honestly say that i have never used the online capability part of the service for more than a few hours since owning it unless you count downloading demos.I only play single player and have been totally satisfied with the 360 since i bought it back in 2008. Add that to the fact that you can pick up dozens of very good games dirt cheap.Although to be perfectly honest my 360 plays second fiddle to my pc heavily.

I have a PS3. Wii, 360 and of course a PC. The 360 gets the most use for SP gaming, the PC for online gaming, the PS3 for Blurays and Sony exclusive games. I like using the wired 360 pad on the PC too.

Wii well that gets played about once a year :D

I personally prefer the 360 as I like the acheivement system and 360 pad, I don't really use Xbox live as I don't want to pay £40 for something that will rarely get used.

If I had to choose a console i'd go with the 360, but as stated above it's about personal choice.

Make a list of must have games and pros/cons, then decide.

One thing to think about is whether some decent local multiplayer co-op games would be to your liking?

I would have said PS3 due to the Blu-Ray player and assorted single player exclusives but I have found the 360 better for splitscreen co-op with Halo 3/ODST and Gears of War 1/2. Plus I much prefer 360 controllers.

I'm not really an online gamer, I've got both (got a 250GB slim a couple of weeks ago) and I would recommend the 360.

It has a far larger library and many of the older games can be picked up for pennies.

There's a deal floating around atm for an Elite with 2 controllers, Pure and Lego Batman for £170 too which is a bit of a bargain. Add Forza 3 for £15 and PGR4 for £5 and it makes a lot of sense. If you want a complete list of 360 games check here: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/games/Retail/

Don't get me wrong. I love my PS3 and it's been my console of choice this last few weeks (Heavy Rain ~ great idea, but a story with more holes in than a colander, Uncharted 1 & 2 truly great but some poor design decisions, Demons Souls ~ good but hard work) and I'd recommend one IF you already had a 360 but not instead of. That being said, if you do go this route you'll still have a lot of fun.

As above, see what incomings games are available and base your choice on that.
Personally, I'd say that although the 360 has a larger back catalogue, the PS3 now has by far and away the better selection of exclusives. I haven't touched my 360 since getting a PS3 at Christmas and I've barely made a dent in Sony's (smaller) catalogue of games. Plus it also doubles as a rather awesome media hub/Blu-Ray/DVD player.
