Im in the middle of getting a spec up and am stuck on ram :D
Im looking at the:

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 5-5-5-12 Timings, 1.8-2.2v VDIMM, Lifetime Warranty with Corsair.

and
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 4-4-4-12 Timings, 1.8-2.2v VDIMM, Lifetime Warranty with Corsair.

Now all this talk of CAS timings etc, is all dutch to me at the mo, but Im guessing the 2nd one on my list would be the best to go for?

Any advice appreciated.

if your speccing up an intel CPU based rig then the latencies aren't going to make much if any difference (unless your really tweaking and overclocking to the max) especially not in windows and probably less than 1fps in gaming.

As an example the difference on my rig in 3D Marks 03 between my rig running the lowest of the low value RAM at 400MHz 6-6-6-15 (I think) timing and running performance RAM at 1066MHz 4-4-4-12 was 3000 points out of a score of ~40,000.

If its an AMD rig they are a tad mores sensitive to RAM performance.

Cheers for the replies all, it's going to be intel based, but like defcon siad, I may as well get the one for a tenner more :)

i would actually go for the dominator range for another tenner more trust me its a lot better will do 1000mhz at 4-4-4-12 timings plus it has the fancy heatsinks which help it keep as cool as the fonz

I'd avoid the dom's, they're promo chips.

Go for the Crucial 10th Anniversay kit, awesome ram, cherry picked microns. Best peformance for its price :)
