Its not DAOC2 but it sure as hell sounds as close as we are going to get to it. Just posting in hope that anyone who remembers that great game and its beloved RvR uses this forum, but Camelot Unchained has been announced and it sounds like its going to be the RvR game that all old school MMO players have been waiting for. Its going to be Kickstarter funded, launching on there in March and I have to admit, when I first read about it I had a bit of a bonk on.

You can read about the principles behind the game and other information on the sites below.

I didn't get into pc gaming until way after daoc was released but I did play warhammer online and I really enjoyed the RVR side of things!

Good to see some guys from mythic are working on this, will keep my toes crossed this turns out awesome.

Yeah I played WAR myself, was nothing compared to DAOC but I did enjoy it somewhat. Hopefully this will get off the ground.

I think scotteh is just saying that if you miss DAOC and fancy playing it again, you can do it for free with hundreds of people.

I tried playing on uthgard myself but I found the game a bit old hat as I'm used to modern mmo mechanics.

I played daoc and war and i personally thought the castle/keep side of warfare was spot on in war in lower t2 and t3. t4 was ok i got to rr70 before i was forced to stop playing cos of isp issues

both games were steadily butchered and bloated or destroyed over time by their own dev teams.

Luckily, this is going to be Mark Jacob's (the founder of Mythic) and a small dev team making this game, without the constraints and influences of EA. Fingers crossed....

Both games were butchered by the same guy.. The same guy who's involved in this.. Mark Jacobs. :(

That isn't true at all. Yes he made some poor decisions himself, but to say he was the only person involved in the downfall of those games would be completely wrong. Also, he is one of the main people behind the great parts of those games, which he will be concentrating on in CU. Do some research and you'll find hes been actively posting in the forums I pointed out about and you can see his discussions with people about this same topic.

To quote a forum post he has recently made;

My thoughts are i think mark will fail at just about everything with this game i don't think he has a clue what makes games good and is blaming EA for his design decisions. Infact i know this to be true, its a matter of record. I was hoping he would reflect on his decisions, from his blog post he hasn't, but hey a ton of kickstarter money would be nice.

I could be wrong, i expect far shorter cc (aka wow style) with even less stuns, far less tactical combat, etc. That is what i expect from his posts.

"I'm sorry if I haven't been really clear about things but let me say once again, "I have made a number of design decisions for DAoC/WAR that either were wrong or didn't work out the way I had hoped." I've also said that never once did JR reach down from atop Mt. Redwood and say to me "Mark, you must add this to the game now and if you do, I'll give you this special decoder ring and the key to the private jet!" It's not like the only guys/gals making decisions for WAR were me and JR. Certain people did dumb things (me included), certain people did smart things that didn't work out (me included) and the blame for the failure of MMORG like WAR, SWTOR, Secret World, etc. can almost never be laid at the feet of one person. As I've also said before I was the GM of Mythic and as such, it would be disengenous of me to either "name names" or simply try to blame others for my mistakes so I'll simply repeat what I've said about my culpability as head of studio. However, as an employee of EA, certain things were above my pay grade and/or power/control so for those things, I can't take responsibility and it would be equally wrong of me to play the martyr card here. Yeah subs? The $75 pledge has 5% off! I got a bit comfused reading through all the rewards per tier, it looks like something i might be tempted by but a game has to be spanking and innovative these days to entice me to pay subs. Besides i should be knee deep in all my other kickstarters by the time this comes out... So ill wait for launch and buy a copy then if it gets raved about.

Topic should be changed to
"For those that can't remember warhammer-online"

I actually enjoyed Warhammer online, biggest problem for me was that the map layouts were messy and in most cases lacked open areas and bottlenecks off those open zones - Emain Macha being frankly the best map i've seen in an MMO pvp environment, it had everything you could want.

I'll probably back this, but just weighing up how much to put into it. I didn't back the Ultima kickstater recently due to reservations but I've not got many with this one.
