For those using 2008 as a workstation

Care to explain?

I see absolutely no point in using a server OS as a workstation. Both products are exactly the same at heart as long as you have the SP on Vista. Even if there is a performance gain it'll be minimal and I'm not one for pushing every last clock cycle out of my PC.

And anyway, out of curiosity, how are guys licensed for this?

Microsoft do trials of the products you know. But if they did not, I would not have to explain myself anyway.

A trial only lasts a max of 3 months. So my point is unless you are licensed through MSDN or an action pack then it's a very expensive desktop OS.

I see absolutely no point in doing that either.

I do, imo after that long its slowing down abit, proberbly not with vista but its a fact it was with XP and I've just got into the habbit of thinking that with Vista aswell.

I like fresh starts..

i don't use this personally, but i format pretty often too

the only things i install are 7zip, paint.net, firefox & o&o defrag, everything else just sit's on D: waiting to be called

Surely with that kind of install you would have an image if you format often?

I format every 12 to 18 Months generally. I'm due for a reinstall soon, but this time I am going to make an image as I am getting bored of the Windows Setup :D

My first Vista install lasted 18 months (before my mobo died) and I noticed no such slowage.

i do have images, but i also use nlite & vlite a lot

so if drastically newer ones come out, i do them (take about 10 mins to make) and about 1/5th of the normal install time to install
