I have a situation where I have a few computers with several users accessing each one. The users have a habit of leaving them logged on meaning the other users can see their emails and documents.. The boss doesn't want this and wants the computers to log off after 5 minutes of not being used. Is there any way to do this via Group Policy? I can't seem to find it in there or after a quick Google!

Thanks! :)

You can make the machine lock after a few minutes via group policy. This would solve the privacy issue but not free up the machine for use by someone else.

log out might causeyou issues with open documents etc

This does not stop users going away and someone using the pc before any gp takes effect.

Yeh I mentioned locking, but other people will need to get on and use it. I don't think hes too worried about documents being open, its mainly a database app they use and emails being open.

I did say what if someone goes on before the timeout but he didn't listen.. Hence he wants it to auto log out after a few minutes..

I don't know why hes so bothered about it really, as we've only just put the new system in and before everyone was logging on with "administrator" and no password set on the domain! no one had separate profiles then although they didn't have individual emails either. We put Exchange in as well and now he loves it as he can get copies of every email received and sent copied to his inbox, he joked when I went in one morning that he had over a hundred new ones and none were for him!

lol@administrator login with no password, awesome!

Indeed.. Its been hard work this week coaching them on how to use logons and passwords. I'm getting constant phone calls of "I can't log in" "Can't we go back to the old way where I just had to press enter?"

I did mention a second mailbox but he said he wanted them all to go in his inbox because "its easier", I'm giving him about a week before hes annoyed with it.
