Hi All

Bought one of these recently to go with my new 24" HP. Removed old Nvidia drivers, used Driver Sweeper, and installed 8.9 ATI drivers. So far:

2nd or 3rd boot up had Vista message saying CCC stopped responding. Removed and cleaned drivers again, then just reinstalled the driver (not CCC). When waking up the PC this morning the sidebar had stopped responding. Never seen this with old 8800 GTS. Sometimes the monitor also takes a few (i.e. more than 1) mouse movement to wake it up - otherwise the screen flickers on and off. This is not the monitor as it was all fine with the old card.

Disappointing FPS in Warhead. Still at stock speeds but unplayable at 1920x1200 gamer settings.

Pretty disappointed with this card/drivers so far. Any ideas?

Thanks

I ended up reformatting when I went 8800gts to 4870. Had some niggling fps issues that vanished with a clean install and I too had done driver sweeper and ccleaner.

I too had continuing issues albeit small even though I did a proper job of changing from a 8800GTS to a 4870.

Eventually a fresh install of windows sorted it all out.

From what I have seen, Warhead is pants whatever card you have even a GTX280. A 4870x2 just about gets playable framerates at the res you are talking about.

And the slowdowns that go on as you play longer or change graphics settings without restarting just shows that Warhead is even more buggy than Crysis was which is saying something.

A bit unfair to blame the card when it screams through other games.

OK thanks for the thoughts all. Might clean install with Vista 64 then as probably going to go 4Gb/Q9550 E0 soon...

PSU is HX 520.

This is doing my head in now.

The issues with the sidebar and CCC seem to have gone now (I have CCC and 8.9 on Vista 64). What remains is when waking from monitor off, the screen flickers slowly between 3 and 5 times before stabilising (which I could live with), BUT when clicking on minimised outlook, it fails to open and right clicking opens nothing - only solution is to close via task manager.

This is something to do with the driver - when 8.9's removed I have none of these problems.

Help!

8.8's do it too.

Looking at the 8.9 thread seems ATI drivers (even if the card is pretty good) are really rubbish. The CCC is certainly very amateur compared with Nvidia. Tempted to get a 280 or just use my old 8800GTS and concentrate on PS3 gaming... (I'm definitely not an Nvidia fan boy BTW - just looking at things objectively)

Well I've given up with this card and it's going on you know where.

Back to my trusty 8800GTS and PS3 gaming (and yet another Vista install ). Shame as I got warhead running quite nicely under DX9 - just don't game enough to put up with my problems. Sort these drivers out ATI...

Just for info - new Vista 64 install done with the 8800GTS and everything perfect again. Those ATI drivers are rubbish - period. It's a shame as the cards appear to be very impressive.

If nv were selling as many cards as ati have done over the past 2-3 months i am pretty sure there would be a lot more driver related threads about the gtx series. It was the same with the 8800gt/gts loads of threads complaining about the drivers saying the card is great drivers are rubbish. Its a fact that a margin are going to have loads of problems with drivers always happens and most likely always will until peoples pc's are as close to can be the same setups.

I had the exact same issues with the same card and monitor [gigabyte 4870 and hp lp2475w] - I had to come to the conclusion that the card was to blame since trying an older GT had none of the same problems and succesive drivers have made no difference. Still I'm going to have a wait a while before I can justify a new card :S
