Im thinking of getting a new card, do nvidia's still not do 1366 x 768?

my 8800 ultra wont on a 26" sony using hdmi, and if the 295's dont still then its ati all the way for me.
plus my mobo is crossfire only.. (im still sore about that one)
 
I had an 8400GS (IIRC) connected to an HDTV at that res using HDMI last wknd without issues so i cant imagine why ur 8800 Ultra doesnt like it!

If ur only planning on using ur card at 1366x768 then a 295 is WAAAAAY overkill, however, if the 26" is a secondary monitor then disregard this post.
 
not aware im doing anything wrong.

my tellys native resolution is 1366x768.

it is not recognised by nvidia drivers as a compatible resolution for that tv.

i did some digging around on the net when i first got it, and found word of nvidia cards only being able to display at resolutions divisible by certain numbers. (cant remember what exactly, possibly 8?)

all i can run are resolutions close to that which forces my display to be stretched to fit, and so its always been horrendously blurry.

the despair... :S

why i can just display in 720p like my xbox does on this tv i dont know.. :c
 
Look thru the tv options for something called "1:1 pixel mapping" or "'Dot by Dot" and enable it.

If that doesnt work, try connecting using a VGA cable.
 
Thanks for that.. Will 1:1 pixel mapping be an option in the stwndard nvidia setup?

I could return to vga, but i spent 30quid on a nice hdmi cable :c
 
i had a problem going through hdmi instead of VGA to my TV would only let me do 1280 x 720 as the hdmi input wouldnt support 1366x768 and whyyyy did you spend £30 on a HDMI cable
 
because you can see the difference in a real high quality cable.. sounds stupid, but trust me..

ive always bought expensive leads for all my consoles, and when comparing a standard scart to a posh one, theres more depth perception between two 3d objects in the background/foreground.

sounds crazy but beleive me... things just look more 3d.

i dont have the option on my tv to use 1:1 pixel mapping. :c

But isn't HDMI digital, so it either gets there or it doesn't?

I know cable quality means a lot for analogue but does it still have the same "ooomph" for a digital signal?
 
buy a dvi to hdmi cable this will solve your problem as it will change your maximum rez from 1366x768 to 1920x1080 that is if your tv is full hd hpe this helps
 
Try this > open the NVIDIA control panel and click on "Manage custom resolutions", in the right hand pane click "Create", in the dialog that pops up click "Advanced" to expose extra settings.

Start at the top and enter the below settings.

Horizontal desktop pixels: > 1366
Vertical desktop lines: > 768
GDI Refresh Rate: > 60
Bits per pixel: > 32
Make sure Interlaced is "NOT" checked
Timing standard: > Manual
Horizontal front porch: > 64
Vertical front porch: > 5
Active horizontal pixels: > 1366
Active vertical lines: > 768
Horizontal total: > 1792
Vertical total: > 795
Horizontal sync width: > 112
Vertical sync width: > 5
Horizontal sync polarity: > +
Vertical sync polarity: > +
Desired refresh rate: > 60.00

Now click "Test" to check if it works.

If it doesn't work, try the one below.

Horizontal desktop pixels: > 1366
Vertical desktop lines: > 768
GDI Refresh Rate: > 60
Bits per pixel: > 32
Make sure Interlaced is "NOT" checked
Timing standard: > Auto

Now click "Test" to check if it works.

I have a 26" Sharp LCD with a native res of 1366x768. It will not work on my GTX285 and it stopped working at a certain driver relaese on my 8800GT.

First things first. NOTHING will work (if its going to) unless you are outputting to the LCD on the PRIMARY head, try do this over DVI on the primary head first before you start looking at HDMI. Doing this over a secondary head will cause panning. E.g. it displays the res in a "window" and when you move the cursor to the left or right extremes it scrolls the image... useless.

I suggest you consult a specialist forum or try to ascertain the settings needed for your LCD, at that res. You need timings, the Active pixels, polarity's etc. basically all of the info in the list d.chatten posted above. A wrong setting here will mean the difference between it workign, and not working. This might help you

You can TRY do this with the nVidia driver but you can also use Powerstrip to define custom resolutions. You may want to read up and try this.

I gave up, my 26" when connected to my PC sits in 1280x768 res because I got sick and tired of trying to get it to work again.
