***FORCEWARE 101.02 WIN2000/XP***

Hmm. I'm having trouble installing them. :confused: Run the "setup" which works fine. I then restart and it doesn't pick up the graphics card. So I do it the 'old school' way and I get the following message...

Gfx_Error.jpg

I ran DriverCleaner Pro, etc. So I'm going to try again in Safe Mode and see what happens. Never had an "Access is Denied" message before. :o

Did you use the modded .inf file, from what i have read from here these are only for 8500 +8600 cards without the modded .inf :confused:

Apparently the modded .inf is included, it installs fine and picks up the correct card. I managed to get them installed in Safe Mode a second time through. But now I have an empty NV CP. Lol. I will get these installed. I will! :p

@gizmoy2k, I'll try the Overscan thing out once I get these bad boys on. :)

The latest forceware is 97.92 on nVidia website, is this new driver you're speaking about (101.02) third party or something?

It doesn't say where this one is from. Usually they are either beta's or releases from vendors. i.e. EVGA. But this one does not say.

Right... I've re-downloaded them again. I'm going to try starting over and try to get these working.

lol, you I know love the power of these cards but the drivers really are poo arn't they, I wonder if there ever be any solid drivers out for them, I sometimes wonder if it's a hardware issue rather than software sometimes, since owning the 8800 it feels like I've gone back in time to owning an ati all in wonder but one that is on speed.

Tell me about it.... grrr! One more shot to get these working, I'll re-enable the old CP and see how that goes. Otherwise back to the 97.92 drivers it is.

Apparently you can enable it ok,

Worked very well with my graphics card. No issues. Old panel as usual:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000

Then must click on "more options".

EDIT: Well that's worked. :D

Old_NVCP.jpg

Now to try these out and see what they are like. I can live without the new CP interface IF the drivers perform.

Now how do you hack that old control panel back?

See my above post. Basically you run "regedit" and navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]

then alter these settings. The last one may need adding.

"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000

I might reinstall S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before I go out tonight and see if these help.

Thanks Firegod for the info about classic control panel, by the way. I recently migrated back to Nvidia and I can not get used to the new-fangled thing they have, drives me mad. :)

No worries bud. Although one thing which I haven't sorted yet. How do you get the new AA feature on the old CP? There is no "Enhance Application" and I can't set my AA above x4. So no x8Q or x16Q. :(

Sigh. I'll stick at it though. lol.

Well this is the new error I have. If I try to install these drivers in Windows or in safe-mode as myself via the setup.exe,

da8fd1d1.jpg

If I try the old-school way in Windows or in safe-mode as myself I get the error shown previously,

Gfx_Error.jpg

However! If I install them in safe-mode as "Administrator" they install fine. :confused: I've never had this much bother before. I have even removed every single Nvidia driver from my PC, chipset and all. Ran loads of regseeking software and still can't get them fully installed.

Back to 97.92 for me. I may install them straight over the top and hopefully they will fix the Control Panel but still use the newer version driver (wishful thinking!). :) :(

EDIT: WTF, now I can't even put the old drivers back on. Same error as above. Well something has gone pear shaped!!! Sigh!

Since i installed these 101.02 drivers i cant use rivatuner, new version available or something ??

RivaTuner won't work with these one's as it stands. You need to go into the PowerTab area and set it so it thinks it's using the 97.92 version still. It's mentioned in the Guru3d forum, what setting to enter. :)

How exatly do you get the old control panel. All I have in the registry is:

ContextUIPolicy
CplGroupUIPolicy
ModePersist_GPU:0_Mode:0
TaskbarUIPolicy

You need to set the values mate. So change the DWORD values for them.

ContextUIPolicy should be 1.
CplGroupUIPolicy should be 3.
TaskbarUIPolicy should be 2.

Then you "right-click" and add a New DWORD and set it to "SedonaDisable" and give it a value of 0.

Ah its ok now, googled it and download a reg file and click it, and it does it all for you :D.

On thing I dont like is the fact that I only get up to 4x AA :confused: when its 16x AA with the new control panel, I cant play TDU unless I am using 16xAA/AF, looks sooo better than 8xAA/AF.

pieman109, doesent seem like most people are having problems with there 8800's, but with me its totall ****, cant play S.T.A.L.K.E.R or many games ecept for TDU at max. For me I get better performance on my X800XTPE for allot of games and the 8800 aint faulty, so for me its total hell.

What I found is that RivaTuner will let you set the adv.options back up. So you can get the Enhanced settings back. :)

Managed to get these installed and working.... had to format my PC but nevermind. :) Lol. Haven't tried any games atm.
