Hello,

I have a job later on today that I am just doing some background research on and cannot get a decent answer from Google.

My customer has purchased a new widescreen monitor with a native res. of 1440x900. She says that she is unable to select this resolution from control panel.

The PC she has was built by another company but they are apparently unreliable and forget appointments and such so I am unsure of the hardware but I imagine it will be some sort of IGP.

Now I am pretty sure I can force various resolutions, right?

Which is the best free application for doing this, preferably one that will run invisibly to the user.

Thanks,

Chris

Yep, her o/b gfx just wouldn't do it. Even with powerstrip.

It was a Via IGP on a P4 board (cannot recall the model number).

May as well close the thread.

FWIW, I know someone who bought a brand new pre-built PC and chose a widescreen LCD to go with it.... They couldn't run it in native res, so I had to put in a nvidia 7300 so they could run a the right res.

Some people over at mp3car have forced VIA onboard gfx to do funky resolutions, but it's more trouble than it's worth. It involves hacking BIOS files which is risky to say the least.

Or, if VIA actually updated thier firmware and drivers, people could run these resolutions without upgrading.
