OK I hope this is the right area (could have posted in Monitors but it seems card related).

Have a Samsung 26" LCD Coupled up to a PC.

Last week I was using an Acer 3200 which has a HDMI output, and could set the resolution to be 1360x768 (WXGA?) with no problems.

Have just plugged in a different computer (Compaq with an Asus graphics card in), again with HDMI output, but can't set it to 1360x768.

Is there any way to force the system to output at a specific resolution?

Right click on desktop-choose personalise-choose display settings-click advanced settings-
choose monitor tab and you will see a box that will be ticked saying hide modes this monitor cant display, untick this box and you can choose any resolution. Job done, hope this helps

It's an ATI card.

Thing is, if I use a VGA cable between PC and TV, I can see 1360x768.
If I use the HDMI cable, that resolution isn't available.

Google for "DALNonStandardModesBCD1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{F3C17C5A-3858-44E6-BA16-C8AF22E8A3AA}\0001]
F3C17C5A-3858-44E6-BA16-C8AF22E8A3AA} been the id for my 4850.

"DALNonStandardModesBCD1" is one of the registry keys that holds the available resolutions for your display.
I've a projector with a res of 1024x576 which is not standard. After adding that resolution into that key (DALNonStandardModesBCD1~3) and reboot, I can select it from the ATI control panel or directly from Windows.

Alternative you can use something like PowerStrip to add a custom resolution.

This link should explain it better:

It works on XP and I don't see why it would fail on Vista. 8)
