Ford Capri is back...

Honda are going in the right direction with the Prelude concept..

The name is back on the wrong car, it's as simple as that.

They may as well stick an R S Cosworth badge on a transit Luton van!

What I find most fascinating is a board of highly paid executives no doubt signed this off thinking it was a great idea....

all brands seem to be doing this, reviving old models with history and expecting it to carry the new Capri/Whatever to sales glory or whatever

Did any of you see the AMA advert for the Capri with Eric Cantona on Reddit? Was basically people asking why he'd associate with such an abomination and how much he was paid - probably wasn't him but there wasn't much sense in the answers. It obviously got the cars name out there but I don't think it made anyone excited.

Saw my first one in the flesh on the road this morning and it reminds me of the Ford Explorer that the US Police love to drive, dimensions won't be far off that. Looks comically large on our roads.

We saw one about a mount ago at a Ford dealer (We were walking past going to ATS to pick up the car) and it was in Yellow. MrsHB liked it, I didn’t. I told her what it was and she was quite shocked.

i think it is essentially the same car as the ford explorer EV which is also on sale.
i dont personally find them offensive and would get one cheap 2nd hand, but they do nothing for me that an E-niro or MG5 or any other of the million electric SUVs dont do.

but a capri? no, they are not a capri. shame really as a modern take on an actual capri in EV form i would love to see. i know the battery makes making SUVs easier but still......

its possible..... the Lotus Emeya seems to pull it off..... not sure people would have the appetite for a £90k capri however and given the Capri was meant to be an affordable British mustang for the masses, that would not be in the spirit of a capri either.

Why do you think the Capri is comically large?

It’s basically the same size as all other cars in its class and almost identical to the VW ID.4 and ID.5 which shouldn’t be a surprise given they are the same car underneath.

The only thing they have left to make it at least slightly like the old Capri is to adjust to ride so as it completely breaks out (Mustang know how to do this) at the slightest mention of a gentle bend at what many would consider taking at twice that speed.

Its an MEB based car around 4.6m, the Explorer you mentioned is over 5m...

I had a good look round one a while back at the Ford dealer and was very very disappointed, I did chat with the Salesman and he agreed with me that Ford are destroying the legacy of some of their previous cars with the Mustang Mach-E, Puma and Capri, at least the had the decency to spell Kuga differently.

i wouldnt mind a new ford cougar as it happens. i test drove one back in the day... was a nice enough car, though ultimately the fiat coupe won out for me.
