Ford Capri is back...

if the price is right ,though; with the desirable new 550/280bhp vag motor £400 10K/2years

think it's a £40K+ car though, which may contribute to deal.
not too shabby a deal to be honest. if you want that car new it would likely depreciate more than that over 2 years of ownership and with a useable mileage.

I spotted an immaculate 2.8 Capri at Boreham Services today. On a 25 plate, so maybe an imported one.

Couldn't hang around to speak to the owner unfortunately. :(

Really not keen on the design of these. Just another silly looking/bulbous Electric SUV.

What is about EV designers that compel them to keep trying this sort of look?

SUV because 1) for better or for worse they are really popular and 2) the best design for hiding the battery and still having rear comfort without your knees by your ears.

I cant comment on some of the odd designs, however imo they are not all bad (i love anything with a cupra badge on myself).

Thankfully they are not all at it. Audi are about to release an A6 electric estate car, Renault make the new R5 and for those who want a little more size without going mad there is the R4 (dont like the looks of that myself).

everyone's favourite.... tesla make the model 3 which i think looks ok in its most recent highland form (shame about lack of indicator stalks mind you - to be fair i have not driven one!) and I am liking the looks of the next generation of VW which seem to be going a bit more traditional with the looks. - the ID3 GTX looks nice but even more so the upcoming ID2. iirc the ID GTI which is essentially the new golf has been delayed which is a shame but still.
there are options.

Yeh, i just hope for more fairly normal looking cars/hatchbacks etc. It is part of the reason i like the MG4. Looks more just like a normal modern hatchback.

Just not a fan of the big bulbous looks /oversized wheels a lot of EV's have.

you need to get a bmw i3

no big wheels there ;)

Big wheels actually negatively effect your range so on a serious note if you dont like the look of them if ever you go to buy a new car make sure you spec small ones if you can. you will save money and increase efficiency, i suppose this is true regardless of the fuel type its just more obvious with an EV.

My car with 22 inch wheels has around 25 miles less range than with the 20inch fitted that i have. I believe you can go smaller too and have.......iirc 18 inch. if i am honest tho, even 20 look a bit small on my car (esp as i didnt get the lower air suspension specced car) so i would not want to go smaller than 20 inch.

back on topic.... i dont like the looks of the new capri however if it came with bluecruise as an option (i dont think it does but correct me if i am wrong) it may be a good fit for my aging parents due to the long motorway journeys to visit us. (the capri start roughly £13k less than a mach e i think.)

While sometimes there are limited options for a car and it can be relative to the vehicle and tyre profile, but for most common passenger cars I have no idea why anyone goes with anything other than 17 or 18 inch wheels with plenty of tyre with the state of roads in this country - there is a big difference in ride comfort and risk chance of pothole damage.

On the bev rear seat passenger comfort/seatwell thing - perhaps manufacturers and reviewers need to openly give these dimensions, as it's easy to forget when demoing a car
- neu-klasse technology reviews suggested they will have different and slimmer battery pack for saloons, so maybe all is not lost.

My older family members will often use tempur cushions in saloons to get a more support under the lower thighs rather than knees in the air, which is where front seats with extendable (sportish) squabs help

Aka the crumb catcher :D

that's them OK so you think they are a gimmick ? - but similar to cheap redesign of many seat with integrated unmovable headrests, they probably won't exist much longer.

Audi seem to be on an advertising siege for a6-etron - having seen the choir advert multiple times I think the rear passengers have very short legs (diversity is useful) or it is a mocked up car - the reality,
as mrrockliffe suggests.

I don't honestly think it would matter if they called it the "Ford Bleugh" - I think its positioned to sell alongside all the other bland, middle of the road trash on Company Car Schemes like the one I am part of. Even as an EV convert nothing on the "whats next" list even remotely sparks any excitement in me in 2025, much the opposite when they chose to ruin a name.

Not really sure why they needed to use the Capri name. To those that know the original this just seems sacrilegious, and those that weren’t around, does it matter what it’s called?
I saw one outise the local dealer though and it doesn’t look too bad. They’d added a thin black stripe across the top of the wings and doors which breaks it up a bit and along the bottom was something like a gradient style stripe maybe 3-4 inches high. Looks better perhaps than my description!

Because the OEMs are in a very delicate situation with EVs. It's extremely uncharted territory, and every single manufacturer is pumping out cars with all the bells and whistles under the sun to stay ahead of the competition, which is as fierce now as when cars were first invented. They're throwing every trick they can at their cars in the hope that it helps them recoup some of the billions they spent developing these cars, and that to them a considerably more important than what a handful of beards on car forums think.
