Hey guys, first time posting in this section. Been looking on google and no one has actually had the problem im having with my car.

Its a 55 reg and the model is the style.

Recently probably about 2/3 weeks now, the car is actin weird. Ive done nothing at all to it, just top up of oil which is the right stuff for it, thats it..

When accelerating from being at a stand still, i ease off the clutch then kick the accel in, but when i do this half way down the accel the car just "sticks". What i mean is it doesnt accelerate properly when i wack my foot to the ground, it stops at the same speed then a second or so later it kicks in and accelerates as normal. It happens in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, after i do over 40mph then in 4th its fine. Its just when i start up from stationary

I dont know what to look for, and just thought if anyone could give me abit of advise?

Its got 35k on the clock, MOT with service was over 3 month ago. Dont think its had an oil change, ive only topped it up the once. Im thinkin of selling it but i dont want the buyer to come back with it for that reason.

Thanks guys :)

Yep, oil, that's the right stuff..

Why are you topping up so often? I don't even top up my 12 year old banger Fiesta that often.

With regards to the oil, you shouldn't have to top it up that often. You have either got a small leak somewhere or for some reason your engine is using more burning more oil than it should.

With the other problem with acceleration, it sounds like to me that it could be to do with the coil pack hence loss of power. The coil pack's on Fiesta's are a common problem and so you might need to get a new coil pack if that's what it is, any engine management light's on the dash at all? If you are still having problems after some investigation then take your car to a garage/dealer which has an ECU fault code reader, see if any error codes are thrown up and you will be able to go on from there.

Was the first time i had to top up since i got it, it was only a 2 second splash if that, just abit of top up as it was a long journey i was on. Ive not touched any of the other kit, only just the windscreen wash.

The only thing i know about the coil pack is it judders along if theres a problem with it. I take it to test that is to get to the engine and pop the four caps, and it should change the way it sounds, if there is something wrong with it, it should cut out? Its alright when it starts up idle, the rev counter doesnt move up or down like it misfires, Just going off when one of my mates had to change a coil pack.

No dash lights come on. Might take it to a dealer. How much would they charge for a reading?

I had the same problem when i bought mine and it was something to do with the air mass sensor. I had it replaced and the problem went away but its coming back now I'll have to look at it when i have some time.

I had a oil & filter change when I first got my Fiesta and I never had to top up my oil at all within the first 12 months of owning it, the level always stayed the same. Then after 12 months I had another oil & filter change. How do you mean it was 2 splashes? How many litres from the bottle did you have to put in?

Ring around some local garages which do ECU fault code readings first, they will usually only charge a tenner. Not all of them do it but it's better than taking it to Ford where they would charge £50 for the priviledge.

Coil pack is what it sounds like to me as what you mentioned in your original post, I had the same problem previously and also my mate had the same problem with his Focus. If your experiencing any juddering then it could be to do with something with the Throttle sensor or the gearbox/speedo sensor.

its a 1.25 engine Peter, just lookin up and its quite a range of fiestas have the problem with the coil pack.

Its alright to drive, but i know from my mates car, its alright one second, next time you turn it on, it'll just studder along. Ive got AA membership so if anything did happen between now and monday least i got a friend in need haha.

With the oil, its not been changed since i bought it. I had to go down london and back the day before i went i topped it up, the top of the bottle was only a slit open, and a quick pour for 2 seconds, not even that. Nothing to harm it, but got a guy to look at what type of engine it was, and it did describe the right model of the car on the bottle. Might get it checked along with an oil filter, since ive done 35k on the clock.

Sounds like the MAF sensor there, and the oil that 1.25's use is 5w30.

Did you not look at the dipstick before chucking some oil in it? I doubt its caused an issue, but randomly throwing a glug of oil in the car because you're doing a long journey seems like a very odd way of running a car!

Lots of people jumping on the ol' oil bandwagon, I doubt you've done anything wrong :)

Likely culprits are:

Coil Pack
HT Leads
MAF Sensor

Had a similiar problem with my Focus, power was down, would judder in the low rev range. Over time it got worse.

Was the HT leads. £30 for a set of Bosch ones. Sorted.

Ant

35k on the same oil and filters?

Am i being silly but i cant see anywhere he said he's topping up oil all the time.
By now your car should have had 4 services and will now be nearly ready for its 5th yearly service.
Maybe look if its had a fuel filter if your unsure on the service history.
Then i would start looking into other things.
Thing to remember is always start at the basics...

Sorry guys just looked at the service sheet it did include a change of oil/air filters and it included spark plugs, the the normal checks of balancing, suspension, belt tension etc. I used the dipstick and was about 3/4 from maximum but had the oil right next to me, so just done a quick top up, again not even for 2 seconds

Just going to pop to a local garage on monday for one of those ECU tests then will get back to you's if its picked up anything :).

Its weird tho, it doesnt happen all of the time. Like today to and from work it was fine, so basically the fiesta just has its moments?! doing what i said in the first place. Ive had the car since new, and thats the first service ive had on it, i know im going to get slated but, ive had no trouble with it what so ever, and didnt think it would need a service once every year are two. And i took into account that i only drive locally, 11 mile there and back from work, the odd long drive once ever 2 months or round abouts.

Thanks for your help guys
