yeah i know, i know . . .

Having a few problems with the family car.. it just seems to have lost it's power.. I can't get it above 70mph and i it strugles to find any power when it needs it. i.e over taking and going up hill.. Even with all the seats out.

It's the 1.9 TDi Ghia version. I know it's not a power horse, but it should be a bit better than it performs. We are heading of to Germany and don't fancy "trudging" along like a tractor.

A mate says it might have something to do with the "Air Flow Meter"?? I think the Turbo charger is faulty?

What do you guys reckon (apart from sending it to the big cruncher in the sky)?

You could be right about it being the turbo, I don't think it would be the air flow meter at all as your car would work fine without it but probably use more fuel...

As said above, check all the hoses for splits and make sure they're all firmly connected.

Does the turbo sound louder now?

The only other thing I can think of is the ECU is in some kind of 'limp-home' mode and a sensor needs replacing such as a LAMBDA sensor or the fuel filter is clogged up.

Just a quick silly question...have you checked the tyre pressures and does it feel gutless when you get to the certain amount of revs where the turbo is supposed to spool up?

This is a very common problem with Galaxy's, and it's usualy the air mass meter, but other problems can cause the same symptoms:

Seized turbo (caused by lack of regular servicing and the resultant filthy oil)
Sticking wastegate
Exhaust gas recirculation valve sticking
Failed temperature sensor (boost is limited if ECU think engine is cold)
Obvious failures like split boost pipes, though you can usualy hear these!

Cheers guys.. Will get the dealer to look at those areas, just wanted a few guidlines before hand.

yes - foot down = nothing :D

Most likely and hopefully just a split hose then mate. The garage will probably charge you a bit just to look at it.

I get the impression you're not all that clued up with cars but just stick your head in the bonnet mate, get dirty....you're a man!! :p
