Hi,

Need some advice on a FORD KA 2003 1.3lL Duratec engine.

There is a knocking sound coming from the right hand side of the engine cylinder head.
At first I though this was due a tappet that may need adjusting or removing for cleaning ( as it may have been blockage with old oil ) in order to resolve the problem.
However a bit of googling and the Duratec engine is in fact a OHC and not OHV like older KA's which had a Kent cross flow engine ! !

Only purchased the car today and have taken in back to the dealer.
My question is what could be causing a very noticeable knocking noise from a Duratec OHV engine.
Is this it a sign of poor oil service or car standing for a while on the fore court ! ?

The car has done 78,600 miles !

Not sure about the cam belt.
I think that is located on the left side of the engine and the noise is coming from the right !

Up date.

The engine is indeed an OHV !
It seems the problem is a cam follower. So the dealer is going to replace the cam and followers.
I am hoping he will do the cam belt as well.

What is the normal cause/s of a follow failing ! ?
