Hi my friend has got a problem her Ka at the moment.

At idle the revs seem to fluctuate below 1000 dropping as low as 500 at a guess because the car will rattle violently and sometimes it will stall.

Any ideas?

Could be a number of things, its possibly some sensor packing in, maybe an air flow (mass) sensor.

idle control valve

Almost certainly that, I believe it's a common fault with Ka's, my mate hat the exact problem, would just stall at will when coming to a stop.

Alright, how much is it likely to cost if it needs replacing rather than just cleaning?

Cheers

its also common on older fiestas.. me fiesta seems to have similar symptoms however the lowest it falls to is around 900rpm... not a problem at the moment but if it gets worst i will need to fix it, so i too would find it useful how much it will cost to get it sorted. ta

This isn't gospel but imho i would replace it not really a part you can fix, depends if its the valve or stepper motor.

New or secondhand part should be cheap enough not sure on price but hunt around the scrappers.

bit late I know but.....

As has been said a common fault, my exmisses had it, hers would stall when you stopped quickly.

using a torx bit undo the 4 bolts on holding the ICV onto the inlet manafold (silver cylinder with its own little plastic inlet manifold, unplug wire, spray loads of carb cleaner in to it (do it away from car body work as it eats paint) leave for a bit, tip out excess (most should evapourate) then spray in loads of WD40 to lube. stick it back on and connect wire.

All done.

rarely need replacing.

Need to do this on the M3 as mine gets a bit stroppy and idles two high, but as it sits under the 6 pipe inlet manifold it is a git to get to and I keep puting it off ;)

I seem to have this problem in the mornings sometimes. The revs go quite low and the steering wheel judders as though your letting the clutch up, but a quick touch of the throttles sorts it.

Thanks for the info ill have to take a look.

Not at all too late, will take a look next weekend when I have some time.

Thanks a lot :)
