My girlfriend has a ford ka which has lasted her 3 years and she is lucky enough to have the money now to get shot of the rubbish thing :)

Over the last year rust has started on the petrol cap and under the passenger door. I have been told these are very common rust problems on a ka.

Its a 2003 53 reg KA with 51k. But due to it having a X21 private reg on it i automatically keep thinking its older than what it is.

She is now looking at trading it in and has been offered £1300ish due to rust problems, suddenly it dawned on me that it is just under 6 years old and may be inside the manufacturers anti corrosion warrenty.

Just checked and ford offer 6 years anti corrosion warrenty.

The car was registered on the 19/12/03 so we only have 1.5 months to sort it out.

Do you think ford will be funny about this as the rust has been there now for a year and has started getting a lot worse.... Obviously this has only been left as we were unaware it was still within the warrenty otherwise we would have sorted it out.

I have tried phoning the ford bodyshops that are local to me but are all shut now as i finnished work late.

Whats your opinions guys, anyone had trouble with ford in these circumstances.

Thanks

Dean

And also due to it not having FFSH will this affect warrenty of the paintwork (doubt it) but they might pull that one.

Anti-corrosion warranties normally stipulate the car has to be inspected at regular intervals by the dealer. The Kas are terrible for rust though, build quality from a 70's timewarp.

Cant help with the warranty question but my gf's 52 plate KA has rust around the petrol cap. Is it a cheap fix? I'd rather sell it privately but obviously not in that state.

If its a common problem they shouldnt kick up a fuss that it hasnt been inspected. And if they do ill just have to take the matter further.

Lets be honest though 5 year old car shouldnt rust simple as that

the warranty on kas may not extend like the others fords as kas are CRAP at not rusting. i got told by a body shop guy to avoid as they're the worst he's ever seen because of the plastic holding the dirt in.

if you're kas rusted... it's just one of them things. like the sun rising and the moon going around the earth lol.

as said ford twill only honour it i think if it's checked by ford so they cover themselves.

your lack of dealer service history has bit you in the arse here. i'd still go down and kick up a fuss and get it sorted by ford, cos lets face it, if your vehicles going to rust, it's going to rust, an inspection or service wont stop this.

I thought that might be the case - they want the inspections to be done so they can spot any rust before it gets too bad, meaning it's cheaper for them to fix it.

It being a common problem is exactly why Ford wont want to pay for it to be fixed!

A friend has a 2004 Ka and it's bubbling up around the rear wiper too - what are these things made of!?

Same as every other car, dont forget the KA is a budget shopping trolley, so corners have been cut, one of them being that to keep costs down the KA doesnt have a galvanized body shell, and wafer thin paint.

If you want decent paintwork, pay more for a car.
