Hi,

Recently purchased a Ford Mondeo 2000/X (3 button remote key) which only has the 1 key.

I want to get a spare made up. Ford quote £135 for a standard key and £150 for a remote key.

I do not mind if the spare key is a standard key so long as it can open/close the doors and operate the car. If I then loose my original key (Never have before) I can get a new remote cut from this.

Can anybody suggest anywhere else that will be able to supply me with one of these keys cut and programmed?

Ideally in the midlands area. Live near in Loughborough, so obviously near Leicester and Nottingham.

Cheers.

only got 1 key i think you are going to have to lube up and pay ford :(

You can get a second hand jag x-type key replace the pats chip and buy a new blank for around £30 all in but you will have to pay ford to link to the car. Still might work out a bit cheaper. (i suppose there is nothing stopping you using a second hand mk2 mondeo key and a new blank)

Coding the key for the immobiliser is the difficult part, or was when getting a spare key for my 00W ST200 earlier this year. You need to get a new, blank key with an immobiliser chip, get the blade cut as your current key and then get it coded by a garage with the right equipment - I believe it's the same kit as for some Vauxhalls. For a remote fob, get one off eBay and you can program it yourself - check www.fordmondeo.org.

My total was £15 for the blank and cutting, £25 for the coding and £10 for the remote fob.

As far as i know on ford of that age you need 2 keys to programme a third yourself. You only have one key so im pretty sure you have no option but to get a ford dealer to do it for you.

In the cars manual there will be instructions on how to programe a new key, there is in my focus manual, and in mine it states you MUST have the coloured master key ( blue in my case) and another working key to be able to programe a new key with the immobiliser and remote codes.

Having researched you need 2x keys or 1x master key to reprogram immobiliser. You only need 1x key (Which I have) to do central locking.

I am comfortable with sourcing a key from eBay if necessary and can find a locksmith/key cutters to cut it. I would be happy to program the central locking myself (Instructions seem easy) but am unable to follow the instructions to reprogram the immbiliser with only one key.

Does anybody know if anybody other than Ford has the equipment to program the key for the immobiliser. I've heard that various places are able to do it.

Intend to ring around a bit in a few minutes in my lunch break... Any ideas who to call?

Cheers.

I rang round and found nowhere, but i was most worried about locking key in car so i bought a jag x-type key and just programmed it to the central locking. Cost about £15.

Try this place m8 http://www.3dgroupuk.com/
they are based in Nottingham and will be able to code the key for you.
If your buying off eBay have a look at the Jag Xtype keys as they look better than the Ford ones but work perfectly on Fords.

i have an X-type key here if you want it. mail in trust (although i will give R124 first refusal as his misses did buy the car).

Needs a new blade of course and its a bit tatty but what do you expect for nought

Locking key in the car is also one of my worries... And as said I've read (And as you've confirmed) you can program the central locking with only 1 other key.

If (And when?) you find that the key is available I'd be a very very recipient!

Cheers

EDIT: Will also try 3dGroupUK too.. Cheers! :)

EDIT 2: Once you're sure I can have the key I'll be sure to get in touch... Don't want to bug you until you know it's def. available... Thanks again :)

what you have to remember is, is that the machine used to cut car keys is £2000 pounds, which means only chains like timpsons and the dealers are likely to have them which keeps the prices high as there is no real competition.

I got told this...

Switch Ignition on 4 times within 6 seconds
Switch ignition off and remove key
Programming mode will be activated (an audible warning should sound) Proceed as follows:
Press and release any button
An audible warning will sound, job done

Repeat process for each key. You can only have a maximum of 4 keys programmed to the ECU.

To exit programming mode, switch ignition on or wait 20 seconds

However I have not tryed it, so no idea if it works or not.

Good luck

Tom

Not checked to confirm (Cannot remember exactly what I saw it) but I'm pretty sure they're the instructions for the central locking programming (Not immobiliser).
