Hi all, any experts in the house? Google seems to offer little in the way of opinion of the Ford 6 speed Powershift autobox found in the mk3 (2011-14) Focus. Any opinions / worries?

Which engine are you looking at? The diesel versions use the wet-clutch Powershift transmission which is generally a better, more reliable unit than the dry-clutch variant fitted to the old 1.6 (125ps) petrol.

Ford switched to conventional torque converter autos for the petrol variants (well, the 1.5T Ecoboost) with the facelift.

Thanks for the reply, it was the petrol 1.6 I was looking at yes. Is it a complete disaster then or worth a test drive at least?

Make sure you get the transmission updated to the latest software, some of the older ones are dodgy. Get the stealer to do this first before you buy.

Private sale so no can do. Good to know the problems are only software related though.

How much would Ford charge to do the update? It's a 2011 model but has a full Ford service history, should it of been done anyway as part of a service?
