I have a Focus ST3 with built in Sat Nav but I'm finding the Sat Nav really frustrating.

It keeps sending me on the most the most bizarre routes and B Roads etc. I've just got back from North Wales and going there it kept me to the A Roads and the route I would have expected. On the way back however to from and to the same place it sent me down B Roads, un-named roads some of which I had to ignore as I did not want to drive my car down them. At one stage it took me off the A5 onto some B-Road only to rejoin the A5 again shortly after. Even locally it wants to send me down single narrow country lanes even though I know there is a direct A Road to where I want to go.

Is it just a pathetic Sat Nav system or am I missing some options?

I've tried the fastest, shortest route options but they don't change to much.. I thought there may be options to prioritise A Roads, ignore B-Roads when possible to something like that but I don't see any options like that.

Any help appreciated :)

What year is your Focus?

Have you got dynamic routing turned on? This will try and automatically route you around traffic and can be a bit over zealous.

The other setting you can usually tweak is the average speed for different types of road. If this has been set too low for urban roads it will tend to favor back roads.

It's a 2016.

I'm pretty sure I have the dynamic routing on, I'll try turning that off although it's sometimes handy.

My Focus is 2010 and the sat nav can be told to use shortest/motorway or not/ scenic / or whatever - just go through the settings

I checked only option are....

Preferred route: shortest, Fastest and Ecological.

The next optio is

Always use preferred route Yes/No

That was set to No, so I've just changed it to yes and will have to see if that helps.

Looks like you having it on no was probably causing the issue.

I use fastest route and have very few problems. The only times I've ever had it take me round the back rounds (unintentionally, seeeing as a significant amount of my daily driving is on those roads!) is when I've tried shortest route.

It still doesn't always match up with what Google thinks is the fastest route though..

Maybe someone involved with sat navs will see this, we can only hope - what we need is a sensible route option or prefer A roads etc - always think the sat nav is trying to kill me sending me down tiny single track roads etc risking head on crashes to save 2 minutes which you dont save anyway imo due to stopping to let people past etc

Would much prefer the sat nav to give me alternative routes based on type of road so you can pick the more relaxing safer route if the time difference isn't much etc, rather than offer alternatives based on time only and often all include some annoying roads

I use ecological on mine as fastest takes me on motorways when i dont need to and shortest uses lots of start stop back roads
