Ford Stereo Advice please!!

Ok, tried contacting numerous ford dealerships, and all are useless!

Trying to buy the missus a 6 CD headunit for her trusty Ka, and i wondered if people knew whether the plastic part of the stereos was replaceable?

by that i mean:

i need the bottom one, bt can buy the top one. The controls are all in the same position (its the same headunit) just the plastic surround thats different...

Are these swappable, and if so where would i get the curved Ka one from to fit to the top unit?

Realise this is a massivley long shot, but thanks in advance fellas

you could try your local ford garage and get it as a spare part ?

Im sure the facia would pop off.
You could always look on FleaBay, sure there would be some on there perhaps ?

When i has my car a replaced the head unit with a six disk changer in the boot, I bought a piece from the ford dealer that is shaped the same as the standard ka unit but with a small slot for a normal head unit, worked a treat and easy to fit. I went into the parts department and they looked on the computer for the type I was looking for

These let you fit a normal DIN stereo in a Ka. Not exactly what you want but could be an option.

I'd look on the 'bay mate. I brought a Ford single CD player off there for my Focus.The Ford dealers wanted nearly £300 for the same thing. Got mine for £80 :cool:

i'm aware of the fascia kits - fitted one to my celica, but want to keep hers standard really

only ebay i've seen is this one:

singles an option, tho would prefer the 6 hence the question about swapping the faces off...

Yep, in black. There are actually 2, but ones got a starting price of £175.

aah, sorry, thought it was obvious from the above pics - but i need a silver one...

and the other one with the £175 opener is for LHD cars (and is black)

Tin of silver spray paint costs about £2. It won't be too hard to get the plastic cover off and all the markings are on the actual buttons themselves.

KA 6006's aren't compatible with other 6006's and vice versa.

Although if you do buy one on ebay remember that a lot of them are likely to be nicked...the 6006 is unfortunately a really commonly stolen unit

As the for the adundant nicked ones, if they are nicked mate, they aren't selling them on EBay! Total lack of silver ones.

Wouldnt know of an alternative source by any chance?

They are the same CD player but you cant take the front off and change it for the KA one, not without a little bit of risky tinkering around anyway, I've heard its impossible to do.

Your going to have to look out for one of the KA variants of the unit, perhaps on the bay or similar.
