Ford's 2.5 V6?

Mine's just a couple of hundred miles away from 100,000 and the engine is sweet as a nut.

Been looking at some tuning options for it and the general consensus is... buy an ST220!

Yes, NA tuning is fruitless IMO. You end up spending so much money for minimal gains.

Been out for a drive this evening in it, its quite nice to waft around in, and the V6 is reasonably effortless. Its not as comfortable as the ST, but then there is 7 years between them.

There's very little out there anyway for the 2.5l, quite a bit more for the obviously more 'enthusiast' orientated 3.0l in the ST.

My 2.5 belonged to a local businessman who bought it brand new, and put 10k per year of motorway mileage on it, looked after it impeccably and then traded it in for a TDCi as the fuel bills were supposedly getting to him. A lot of the 2.5's floating around are in decent nick as they tended to be owned by people like the gentleman who owned mine.

I've decided against going for any power gains now anyway, just thinking about making it sound better :D

GF has had a 2001 Mk3 2.5 Ghia for a few weeks now, thus far, smooth, powerful, quiet and relatively economical.

bags of bottom end pull it seems, its a good job as she is particularly fond of climbing hills in a high gear...:p

Rear silencer was off its hanger the other day, the bracket looked a bit flimsy, so I've beefed it up a tad and the "strange bumping noise" she'd told me that her car was making has now gone.... :D

A world away from her previous Mk2 2.0 Mondeo's.

I also have a knocking from the rear, I suspect its either the exhaust or a top mount, but haven't been bothered to look at it yet (and it wasn't apparently on the smooth roads of the test drive).

The other thing I've noticed is that when labouring (low rpm, higher gear etc.) there is occasionally a very slight bearing noise, so I'll have to wait and see how that develops - I've had cars in the family with noisy input bearings go for 50k without any issues, or getting worse, so it may just be fine - of course, I guess it could just be the clutch release bearing sticking, or even just need the oil topping up changing - this will be my first port of call, seeing as its cheap and easy.

I've noticed a similar thing when she dirves hers, I think its simply too high a gear for the given engine speed, she's fond on treating 4th like 2nd......

No,she won't be told.... :D

Well if I manage to solve it, I'll be sure to let you know.

I'm not quite that bad, but the ST allows me to be in 4th at 20mph if I wanted to, so teaches me bad habits :D
