Which one of the European languages do you find the most difficult to learn?

Incidentally I work all over Europe and this sort of thing gets discussed fairly often.
Hungarian followed by Finnish are the most often mentioned as the most difficult to understand, read or surreal.

Hungarian is a bit of a weird one in that it isn't that hard to get the gist of it but the nuance is another level again. (Compared to some other languages where I find even getting a basic grasp for it relatively inaccessible).

I'm English, it's not my job to learn foreign languages ;)

Damn straight, our forefathers didnt fight tooth and nail around the world to found an empire and go through 2 world wars for us to have to learn other peoples languages!!

On a more serious note i've noticed it seems english is to go-to language of the non-native english speakers, so its an interesting question really which one you should pick if english is your native language.

Actually, OP's question isn't that stupid. The Foreign Service Institute publishes numbers on the number of weeks required for a English-native diplomat to become competent in a language:

So there's your answer
