installed windows 7 64 ultimate on my samsung 830 ssd before I knew about AHCI settings, does this make a big difference ? If so is there a way to change it now ? (in BIOS)

yeah,stay booted in ide mode,download/run this reg file,reboot into bios,set to ahci mode,save/exit,boot into windows and youll see ahci drivers being installed,thats it

Then restart, go into BIOS, and change the SATA mode to AHCI.

ok it worked but it has deleted Steam :S ? also should hot plugging be enabled ?

Just to hijack the thread

Before I install the OS onto my SSD, I should disconnect my hard drive, go into the bios, change the sata settings to AHCI, reboot and THEN install the OS onto the SSD?

how has it deleted steam? all it does is enable ahci it doesnt delete anything

and yeah enable hot plug if your pulling drives in and out

a dunno mate just restarted after installing drivers n the icons were missin from the start menu so a went into program files n that n its gone lol, not a major issue tbh it can be reinstalled, ssd is much faster now mate thanks a lot
