Format Question

Hi Guys.

Today my parents asked me to look at the computer as it's slow, after a few scans it turns out it's rammed full of spyware and a virus or two.

I've tried cleaning the system before but it's a PITA as it's so slow and it usually crashes before the scan completes. So instead of going through that I'd thought I'd just format and re-install windows.

The main problem is that I'm not sure what settings and things i'll need to save for outlook express (I've never used it, just hotmail for me). Obviously I'd like to save all the messages in the inbox as well as the settings for connnections and mailboxes and the like. It's quite important that I get all the possible numbers/addresses/connnection values etc before I format because I can guarantee they won't have written any of them down.

The rest of the programs I should be fine with. Only other thing I can see being a problem is finding what chipset/gfx drivers i'll need to get because I'm sure they will have thrown the disks away.:(

Thanks for any help.

Try having a look at this
Regarding the drivers look in device manager before you reinstall and it should tell you what the LAN chip, soundcard and GFX is. Then you can go to respective sites and DL the latest drivers

Backing drivers is really easy. Use Driver Grabber.

Then if its not picked up by Windows, go into Device Manager, right click on the hardware and click 'Update Driver' and point it to the relevant folder the Driver Grabber backs up for you.
