Tried doing this a while ago but had trouble boot into unbuntu on the same SSD as W8. I want to try again as I much prefer using Unbuntu for general PC use and W8 for Steam.

Can someone walk me through the best way to do this? I have a 55GB SSD drive that I want to install both OS's on.

How much space should I allocate for both OS's?

I've always kept them separate on different HDDs to be honest, that looks fairly straightforward though.

Windows 8/8.1 needs a fair whack of HDD space, if you are going to do this you'd probably want to sacrifice hibernation on W8 to free up a few extra gig. I'm not entirely sure how feasible it is to have both on a 55Gb drive with space for anything on Steam though.

Requirements, absolute minimums for OS only, increase as you think necessary:

Ubuntu - bare minimum of 5Gb, just for the OS.
Windows 8 32 bit - 15Gb
Windows 8 64 bit - 20Gb

Personally if I wasn't going to use Ubuntu for much I'd drop 8Gb on it and the rest for Windows 8.1+steam, I'd also ensure I went to 8.1 before adding any thing into the OS and then disabled hibernation to free up a few extra gig.
