Formatting a dell pc?

Hello,

Basically i have a dell 775 (work pc) which came with windows XP pre-installed onto it (downgrade from windows vista) which came with with windows vista recovery cd's. the cd-key sticker on the machine is a vista key.

Am I right in thinking that I can use any dell windows xp cd to recover my machine? and that the cd-key will not need to be entered upon doin so?

In theory that should work just fine, i cant ever remember entering a code for a Dell XP restore disk.

Technicly its not an issue, however licensing may be an issue.

When you say a work PC, did you buy it for working or did your work provide it?

What disks came with the machine? How was it "downgraded"?

If it has a Vista license on the side of it, legally you should have Vista installed on it.
