Formatting a drive

There are many ways to format a drive, you will most likely need to backup your data.

What is it that you plan on doing?
 
If you are formatting a drive so that you can re-install your OS or something then when
you put your Windows disk in and enter setup you can Format the drive as part of the
setup process.

If you want to format the drive to sell it then you can still do the same thing but just dont
carry on with the setup after, although if its a secondary drive then you can do it from
within Windows in the Disk Manager.
