Probably a stupid question - im going to format my laptop, either to flog it or pass it on to family.

Now the problem is, I never made the factory backup CD so I assume that could cause some issues?

If that is not a issue, would a simple reformat of the HDD and then installation of say Windows 7 (from a seperately purchased CD) be sufficient to ensure the laptop and all its components work? Things like the card reader, Wireless Card, Touchpad, all the ports etc?

Cheers,

Windows 7 should get most of those things working.

But if not visit the manufacturers site and download any missing drivers.

what laptop do you have and what operating system in it? usually laptop has built in recovery windows on the hdd.
