Firstly, apologies if this should be in the Hard Drives forum.

I did a complete clean install at the weekend and have since got everything back and up running fine. However, this afternoon, I uninstalled my AV program as I was considering changing and upgrading. Somehow, in a matter of hours, I picked up 24 viruses which have in turn sent my computer completely loopy. I'm getting error messages, popups and at one point my Maxtor vanished from both within windows and within the BIOS. (Not sure if it's related or not)

On a plus note, seeing as i've only recently formatted, I thought i'd reformat the partition that windows is installed on ( C: ) and re-install. However, when the Windows setup reaches as far as selecting which partition to install on, the drive letters swap and it shows that windows is installed on drive E: and not on drive C:. If I boot back into Windows, it goes back to normal and shows that Windows is installed on C:

Any ideas what could be causing this? Just to clarify, Windows is installed on a 30GB partition of my 320GB Seagate and the Maxtor drive is used solely for storage.

Any advice appreciated :(
