Formatting PS3

Im actually going to sell my PS3 to a family member but as I dont want my user details, game saves, card details etc stored on there, do I just go to the PS3 format utility to wipe the HDD so they then start from scratch?

Also what does this do to the firmware? Will it go back to what was default with the machine, or will it remain at what I currently have (the one before the 3.6 update)?

Use the Restore PS3 System option. Don't bother with a full format when it asks, a quick one will be...quicker.

Deactivate your console too in Account Settings.

The firmware won't change when you format.

So I use the restore system option and then deactive the console in the account settings?

You'd need to deactivate it before doing the restore, otherwise there'll be no account to actually deactivate it with.
