Firstly i go into BIOS and change boot sequence to

1:cd-rom
2:hdd-0
3.SCSI

then i save and exit.

(with the xp professional disk inserted) i get the message "Press any key to boot from cd...." so i sit there pressing away and it doesnt respond just boots up windows normally? can anybody tell me why its really starting to frustrate me?

Iv tried using both, once the computer has booted with works fine(the keyboard) also once or twice it has came up with the option to start windows in safe mode etc also in there the keyboard doesnt work.

Try a different keyboard with a native PS/2 connector- some BIOS versions don't like USB keyboards or USB keyboards with a USB -> PS/2 convertor :)

well it worked once already, and a lot of dll files were missing, could that be the reason? and iv tried two different keyboards, so i'm guessing its not that.

Oh so you mean when you were installing windows in the text part of setup, it said it could not find certain files? I'd say either your windows disk is knackered or your optical drive is- try a different optical drive and windows disk if you can :)

Oh dear, im so stupid i was plugging the old keyboard into the mouse slot instead of the keyboard slot, worked fine after that all formatted now, thanks. Haha what an idiot :D.
