Former President James Carter receiving hospice care

Thank goodness you posted this, I've spent all night wondering about former US presidents.

Seriously? The man in 98, he has spent his years since being president doing good works with his own hands, never took a seat on a board or did the speech circuit for money. As human beings go he is a pretty good one, compared to the dross politics gives us today he is a saint.

I.e. being made comfortable in his last days

The big problem he had as president is that he's far too good a man.
Too true.
Until his 90s he cares for this world, when others younger than him are trying to steal as much as they can for greed and glory.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's, remembering his name in the news and that of his successor, Ronald Reagan.
The press showed him as not being ruthless, however he was always diplomatic and saw violence as the extreme, last resort.
Reading his biography in the media, my honest opinion is that Jimmy wanted to show the rest of humanity beyond the dollar, the oil, the guns and the selfish greed; that there is a world with lasting peace.
Rest well Jimmy Carter, you have redeemed yourself more than many other leaders.

Carter and Reagan were for me the last two good presidents of the United States. Obviously one was a Democrat and one a Republican so hopefully I can't be accused of bias there. Carter seemed to genuinely want to bring peace to the world. He was the first US president that I was aware of as a child. I wish him the best.

When I think of Reagan I think of him giving huge tax cuts to the richest in society and the failed war on drugs which resulted in locking up some of the poorest people in society for up to two decades for cannabis possession all whilst the CIA secretly funnelled cocaine into the country and used the profits from doing so to fund rebels so they could take down the government in Nicaragua.

And your thoughts on Jimmy Carter, whom this thread is about?

To me he seemed to be a man genuinely interested in peace, rare to see criticism of Israel from a US president for example (hence the Nobel i guess). Hopefully he doesn't suffer in his remaining days.

One of the better presidents for sure, i think his work after his presidency is what puts him in such a good light relative to many others.

EDIT: Not gonna delete the above, I shall live with the shame, but I will clarify that I was under the influence when this was posted.

Over a year since I posted this.

Without seeing who posted it I genuinely thought "that's a bit of a dick thing to say"

Then saw it was me, checks out :p
