Former President Jimmy Carter has died

Seemed like a decent guy, a great innings and seemed to have pretty good health until near the end. Reminds me a lot of a great mentor I had when working in the US. A different era and breed of gentleman.

When I was younger he was someone I only really knew as the butt of many jokes, but over the years as I learned more about him it became apparent he really was a genuinely good bloke, someone that cared about doing the job right, knew when to call in experts and had put himself in harms way repeatedly to do his job in the navy, and actually seemed to live his life as a good person trying to improve things for other people.
IIRC he was still actively helping with things like building homes for people until quite late in his life.

The sort of guy that wouldn't stand a chance in politics today.

As Flibster says, a genuinely good person.

To be honest i thought he had died decades ago ,can remember something in the 70s of him being a peanut farmer and then president but after that nothing.
Was too young to remember Ford before Carter but remember Reagon after better.
Although i remember the russian invasion of Afghanistan was under his watch in late 70s early 80s and him brokering a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt
my dad did have to sell his 6 ltr Jag XJ6 though when he was president as it was a bit thirsty and the oil price shot up.

Just seen this. RIP. He seemed a good man and one of the better US Presidents. He was the first President that I was aware of as a kid.

Someone who deserved the title Man of Honour. I think he actually became president only because he thought he could do good with the job. Didn't catch on.

RIP. First and, so far, only president to turn 100. One heck of an innings. First person from the state of Georgia to make it to the Oval Office.
