Hi, I purchassed a Fortis B42 Automatic Chronograph at the start of the year and am now looking to sell it/trade in for a different watch. I like the look of the black dial Fortis Marine Master or possibly the Omega Planet Ocean.

My question is how much is my watch worth (cash and trade) and where could I sell/trade it? I tried the place I bought it from (Austin Kaye, London) and they said 1/3 of retail cash maybe a little more trade! This seems very low to me seeing as it's in perfect condition, boxed and with all documents/receipts.

Are they trying to take me for a ride or has my watch really lost 66% of it's retail value in under a year :(

you should get anywhere between £500 and £700 for it, unfortunatley that is probably not good news

very few watches hold any more than 50% of RRP partly as most watches are available at 20+% off in the first place ( these are normally about 30% off of RRP )

selling privately or on Ebay is likely to get best price

shame really as it's a nice watch

Thanks for the quick reply, saddly it's not what I wanted to hear but still. On a slightly different note, how much should I be looking to pay for an Omega Planet Ocean in cash?

That's what I presumed, but there were plenty of Seamasters in the jewellers I passed today... Is it specific models? A Seamaster is on my post-uni-skintness list :)

SM is just due to high demand, there are a lot of buyers that can;t quite run to a new one and not that many come on to the 2nd hand market, it's one of those watches that folks tend to keep hold of

I recently bought a fortis B42 chrono for £550 it was about 2 years old I have seen them on ebay going between £500-700 so Rotty was spot on, its going to be flipped soon though I got a Chrono Avenger incoming
