Raven 03 vs others? quality & quiet case

Im looking for a high quality case for a new build of mine...
Because Im a bit limited with money now, I won't be doing WC straight away, but the case should be with this in mind.

Silence or near silence is my primary concern, but of course the performance of the cooling cannot be sacrificed.

Im having a hard time choosing something as FT02 is deer, Raven has awful gold stripes and Im worried that the penetrators will be a bit too loud...

Im planning to add/change some of the fans anyway but a fan controller will go in as well.

What would you recommend?

The Raven & FT02 are basically air cooling cases and the fans on these cases are of a very good quality - so you wouldn't need to go changing anything around.

The 180mm air penetrators on both these cases are very quiet and most people will choose to run them at the lowest setting on the inbuilt fan controller as you will only give up a couple of degrees in doing so.

The RV03 is also available with grey stripes as well which are less dramatic than the gold version.:D

I know about the Grey/Black Raven... does it also have fan controller for penetrators?
What is the voltage on low setting anyway?

i've just bought a FT02 and it is an awesome piece of kit.
It is louder than my previous setup (Antec P182 with 4 noctua NF-P12's) but i still dont regret it. The cooling capability of the FT02 far surpass that of any other air cooled case.

My GTX570 was hitting around 75°C while running BF3 beta and wailing in my old P182, now in the FT02 the 570 doesn't go beyond 55°C. I couldn't believe such drops in temps were possible just from a case, but wow.

i'm tempted to replace the exhaust fan later to a more silent varient, and possibly one with an LED as my FT02 is the windowed version, but that's for the future and i'm not sure how much difference it will make to the noise.

ppl do water cool with the rv02 and the ft02....they take out some of the bottom fans and shove in a rad.

Between the rv02 and the ft02 the difference is marginal...if money is an issue then rv02...ft02 is marginally cooler and aluminium so arguably looks better.

rv03 id guess with its design might not be so good for water cooling plus with its fans at max speed its actually a hotter case than the rv02 at minimum.

What gfx card is going in? anything beyond the size of a 570 or 6950 may start to encounter size issues requiring the removal of a fan cover.

What do u suggest than?
Just writing this isnt much of a help ;)

Probably a Corsair 650 or above, or Lian Li case.

The FT02 (RV02 too) is great at air cooling, it does it better than any case on the market IMO, but it lacks the space for a proper custom loop setup.

While it lacks that, it makes up for it in cooling ability.

If you ultimately want to end up with water, then put your money elsewhere.

If you are going for a Corsair 650D and want a silent case then you will need to do a bit of modding because the default fans are pretty poor even using the fan controller.

I have just gone from the 650D to the Silverstone Raven RV02B-EW and the performance mixed with the silence blows it out of the water - yes the 650D looks very nice and sleek with great cable management, but performance isn't great and you seem to be about 50/50 on getting some dodgy fans.

I'd rather have some decent fans to start with, but don't mind getting better ones... the problem is then that I would need to make another decision (with a lot of research, reading etc. beforehand) which ones to get.

MilanoChris, what Lian Li cases would you recommend for this purpose?

BTW. Did I mention that I do not want anything overly huge?

Would a Corsair H80 be nice together with a FT02, or should you really just use air coolers?

There are loads of FT02 owners , myself included uses a Corsair Hydro system.

I got a H50 with a i7 930 and it keeps it pretty cool at stock.

I was thinking about getting the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro as they seem to be super quiet even at higher o/c...
Noctua is 15 quid deerer and Id rather spend it on a gfx...

ft02 is a bigg case...but depends on your idea of huge!? I agree with Milano the lian li ones perfect for water cooling are giants....corsair ones look gd but for air cooling they really arent great.

Just out of interest what will you be water cooling? the cpu? gfx card?

With a frozr and the air penetrator fans of a ft02 pumping cool air directly onto the bottom of the card heat wont be a prob there! wit a decent cooler your cpu would also be very cold in one of these cases....i have RV02 and a gtx 570 soc and it never goes beyond 65c under maximum load for extended periods...and i got a hot room. My cpu is cooled using an Antec H2O 920 and iv never touched 60c with my overclock....prime95 gets me up to about 55c.

What about the HAF 932 and HAF X cases?
The styling, as with many cases, is down to individual preference but i believe they're very good at air cooling and also allow decent enough water-cooling setups, although not as good as the high-end watercooling cases (800D, TJ07, etc.)

Ive been thinking about WC today... looking at bits and bobs and I reckon I will not go fully ahead on this...
I am debating to get the H80, change coolers for more quiet ones and be done with it.

Jasonst888, whats your o/c?

Just measured up the Raven.. seems a bit too big... FT02 is way too long for me though so one is ruled out...

Changing the topic lol :) -> Seems like I cant do it :(
