Are you the owner of a forum?

I was just wondering how many people here have their own forums, and how big they are, what software they use, how old they are etc.

My SMF board presently has a modest 30k posts, but is growing rapidly. Should only be a few months before that's doubled.

Current iteration of the board started Nov 9 2007.

The board has been reset many times, with or without data loss, due to a few hackings, URL transfers, clean sheets, and the like. We are up to v19 or so now....early ones below 10 were not big boards and were moving hosts... I wasn't in charge until about v9 or so, and since then there has been a lot less data loss, and just URL and host movement (counts as version increase to us). Data loss is now generally prevented, with plans for the full wipe as of Nov 9th to be our last, lest something bad happens.

It's not a great way to run a forum, but it has worked fairly well, and we are finally steady now :)

custom jobbie playing with ASP, about 10k posts and have had 101 signups, although only 20 regular posters. For a place that was setup as a hobbie in spare time just playing with html/asp it's quite successful but currently has no real purpose.

how do you guys cope with Russian and Chinese spammers?

on our fledgling forum we are getting all sort of signups. We've banned the usual domain registrations but they popup now with hotmails and gmails. Any tips are much appreciated :)

They don't tend to get to IPB at all.

Plus I do admin validation, checking IPs and dodgy email addresses. It's a little extra work and turns a few people away, but it's generally those that don't care enough in the first place :)

What do they spam blade? The most often spam we get is mobile phone sales from some other country, but that is quickly dealt with by a delete.

getting quite a few tramadol at the moment and a lot of spam stuff like users called "yhjdfuhsd". Also had a few called xrumer@ various email addresses, which seem to get through captcha quite easily. I've added a spam list into vb which knocks out most of the usual email domains but these new ones are using yahoo, gmail, and hotmail's. Is there a way to stop them?

1 'forum' and there's no real subject, just a community chatting really. I'm the only admin, it's never needed anything else.

Spammers never seem to get past vB.
