Woo, ok, here's goes.....

It's been a fair while since I did any real Website design, I gave up on it when I concentrated on my IT support career and became a family man.

However, I do find time to play the MMO D&D Online, and help run a nicely community of players. What were looking for now is a brushing up of our old hacked together website and freebie forum by implementing a new website and forum software on a domain/hosting company of our choice. The hosting company and domain name have yet to be chosen.

However, I'm looking for some nice specific requirements. Our 'Guild' if you like is quite simply and we dont need huge amounts of features, most ofthe content that website would hold exists nicely in our Forum for people to look up.

Technically, I'm looking to build a nice little 'Front End' or landing / start page, that can hook back into the Forum software and retrieve data. What Im looking for here, is a system where a Forum and Calendar Extension can work together for when the Guild organises meetings and in particular in game Raids, so that on the landing page we can have some quick headlines to upcoming Guild Events.

In the traditional flat website sense, the only additional pages besides the landing page maybe a guild signup page that hooks into the Forum to create a Forum account as well.

Maybe a content management system, maybe a Forum with Extensions, i don't know but I'm hoping someone here can make some suggestions on where to go with this?

You can get dedicated guild based cms sites rather than using something like drupal or joomla.

The only one I know of from the top of my head is: http://www.dkpsystem.com/, you don't have to use the dkp stuff. I'm sure there are others.

The advantages of a guild based system is stuff for chars, guild banks, event calendars and much more.

BBdkp may be a little too much for what you need, it works off phpbb3 and can be incorporated with phpraider (a calendar mod designed for guilds raids) and has a index page that can be quickly adjusted to show upcoming raids, news articles and such.

Failing this, just go with phpbb3. Grab one of their "portal" modifications to create the front page you want and grab a calendar mod (of which there are many).
