Car trouble :(

Engine management light coming on randomly and flashing on my Clio (orange picture of engine)

Slight juddering when putting power in (happens randomly, sometimes its fine), inconsistent power, sometimes leaps forward, sometimes nothing happens. Feels like it's lost a lot of power in general, wont go over around 60 no matter what gear or revs I use.

Booked in at the garage today but just to reduce the risk of them claiming its something or not and getting taken for a ride, what do you guys suggest the issue is?

Thanks!

You need to get the codes read really to even have a clue what's going on.

Generally a constant engine light means there's a fault and a flashing engine light means stop driving now.

A friend had this issue on his Vectra, which turned out to be the sensor had gone. Maybe totally unrelated, but adding my 2 pence worth!!

Coil pack seems a common suggestion. That expensive?

Regarding 'flashing' being stop now.. kinda worrying. I need to drive it to the garage this afternoon. I'll keep to low speed I guess.

Coil packs aren't usually that expensive. It's the labour that can up the cost.

Not to be unexpected I guess. Is it a difficult part to get to, assuming that comes up as the issue?

Having to strip a lot down will be expensive.

Is it a mk2? Clio pack on those is just 4 bolts on top of the engine. About 10 mins to switch over.

The coil packs are cheap and usually easy to fit and judging by the top comment incredibly easy. I'd buy the part and either pay the mechanic for use of tools if he's going to charge you a stupid rate or buy the tools if you trust yourself. They're actually pretty common to go.

Okay cheers guys. I'll keep it zipped and see what the garage say first. Computer reader should give it all away hopefully.

My friend had a similar problem with his Renaultsport Twingo. Turned out to be the O2 sensor pre cat which was a pain to get at. He also asked me to change the sparks and coils as it is a known issue for water to leak from the scuttle into number 4. This was also a pain as I needed to remove the wipers and scuttle to get my spark plug removal tool in. Oh the joys of modern Renaults!

Well their heads should, the computer should be confirmation :p (As you can tell by people here knowing exactly what) If you have a google around you can see other threads with this. The part should be about £30 or less.
